Motivation:  Checking of attendance

Good morning class Good morning ma’am, good

morning classmates.

Please take your seat Thank you, ma’am,

Ok so let’s have a simple warm up on our minds.

Let’s play the Gibberish, are you familiar with this
one? This is a very famous game, so you have to read
the groups of unrelated words and decipher them into
words related to light.

Example:
Hop + pulled + juice
Answer: apple juice

Are you now ready? Yes ma’am

Ok so let’s have the gibberish number 1
1. Sand + life
Answer: sunlight
2. Can + dell
Answer: candle Students will play the game
3. Flash + lie + t
Answer: flashlight
4. East + are
Answer: star
5. Lay + sir
Answer: laser

Ok thank you for your active participation

Look at the answers, we have the sand,
candle, flashlight, laser and stars so what do you think They produce light
is common among them?

ELICIT
So I have different sets of graphics or pictures here

At the upper part you can see that it is dark, so what

makes you see street at night? Or the view of a
mountain? And the virus under microscope? Light

Correct it is the light

ENGAGE Centuries ago, light was studied by several
well-known scientists.

Isaac Newton, one who believed that light

behaves like a particle and pointed out in his
1704 book Optics, that "Light is never
known to follow crooked passages nor to
bend into the shadow". This concept is
consistent with the particle theory of light,
which proposes that light particles must
always travel in straight lines.

Christian Huygens who believed that light

behaves like a wave. He believed that there is
a medium called ether that carried light
waves. Student will take down notes

Louis de Broglie who came up with what is

now known as the Dual-Nature of Light. He
explained that light can behave like a particle
and as a wave.

James Clark Maxwell who proposed the

Electromagnetic Theory of Light.

So whenever you hear the word light, what Answers may vary
comes into your mind?

Light-is a form of energy found in our

surroundings.

Light from the sun is a source of energy that

can run different technologies throughout the
world. Light can be natural or man-made, but
no matter how it was formed, we utilize it in
different ways in every single day of our
lives

Opaque- materials do not allow light to pass

through instead it will be absorbed and
converted into heat.
Transparent- materials allow light to get
through and translucent materials partly
allow light to get through.
Translucent-materials partly allow light to
get through.

So we have diffferent sources of light

Natural sources of light include the:
sun, which is the main source of energy,
stars very far from the planet earth, fire that
provides heat and lightning that occurs from
our atmosphere during bad weather. These
sources of lights are present naturally in the
universe and are not made by human beings.

There are also artificial or man-made sources Natural, luminous

of light such as incandescent bulb, candle,
matches, and gas lamps. These are man-
made sources of light which are very useful
during the nighttime

All objects that are capable to emit light are

known as luminous objects such as the sun,
incandescent bulb, candle, flashlight,
matches, and gas lamps. Non-luminous
objects are those that cannot produce light
such as moon, rocks, water, and soil.

So have you seen this species?

Identify this species if it is a natural source of

light or an artificial source of light. Then tell
whether if it is luminous or non luminous
object.

Ok so they are luminous because they

produce their own luminance and we call this
as biolumenescene, it is the production and
emission of life by a living organism.
So if you see a firefly in your backyard, you
will tell yourself that this is a natural source
of life.

EXPLORE
Group the students by pair and let them answer the activity
EXPLAIN
Let the student explain their answer

ELABORATE
1. What do you think are the sources of
light?
The sources of lights are Sun, fire, candle,
incandescent bulb, and others.
2. Which of these sources of light are
natural?
Natural sources of lights are sun, stars,
lightning, fireflies, and glow worms. Student’s will answer
3. Which of these sources of lights are
artificial? Artificial lights are flashlights,
candle, and incandescent bulb.
4. How will you differentiate natural and
artificial sources of light? Natural lights
produces heat and lights which are not made
by human, while artificial lights are lights
made or created human.

EVALUATE

EXTEND
Search and name some organisms that are
bioluminescent.
