I. OBJECTIVES THE LEARNER…

A. Content Standard demonstrates understanding of key concepts of Statistics

B. Performance Standard is able to interpret frequency distribution

C. Learning Competency Is able to construct graph of ungrouped and grouped frequency distribution.

II. CONTENT

III. PROCEDURES
Group the students into 8 groups and let them to conduct survey 50 students
about any of the following topics:
 Favorite subject
A. Reviewing previous lesson  Favorite color

 Favorite male artist
lesson
 Favorite female artist
 Favorite TV Station

B. Establishing a purpose for How to represent the collected data in different forms?
the lesson
C. Presenting I recently purchased a bag of Plain M&M's. The M&M's were in six
examples/Instances of the different
new lesson colors. A quick count showed that there were 55 M&M's: 17 brown, 18
red, 7 yellow, 7 green, 2 blue, and 4 orange.

Prepare a frequency table.

Express frequency distribution using graph.

D. Discussing new concepts PRESENTATION OF DATA
and practicing new skills Data list - an explicit listing of all the individual measurements, either
as a display with space between the individual measurements, or in
set notation with individual measurements separated by commas.

The data obtained by measuring the age of 21 randomly selected

students enrolled in freshman courses at a university could be
presented as the data list:

18 18 19 19 19 18 22 20 18 18 17
19 18 24 18 20 18 21 20 17 19

or in set notation as:

{18,18,19,19,19,18,22,20,18,18,17,19,18,24,18,20,18,21,20,17,19}

A data set can also be presented by means of a data frequency

table, a table in which each distinct value x is listed in the first row
and its frequency f, which is the number of times the value x appears
in the data set, is listed below it in the second row.
The data frequency table is especially convenient when data sets are
large and the number of distinct values is not too large.

Data frequency can be shown graphically.

 Pie chart
 Line graph
 Bar graph
 Histogram

Discuss the characteristics of a good graph.

E. Developing mastery Let the students express their work in terms of pie chart and line graph.

F. Real Life Application Let them graph the result of their survey (activity 1)

G. Generalization/Abstraction Let the students sum up the lesson.

The following is the number of female employees in different

branches of commercial banks. Make a frequency distribution.

__________________2. A type of statistics that consists of generalizing from samples to populations,
performing hypothesis testing, determining relationships among variables, and
making predictions.

possible to divide the population into these groups and to draw samples from the
groups.
