“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” –
Mahatma Gandhi. With the belief that leaders should be of service to others once
again reached out to the community - this time at the Barangay Dontogan Child
Development Daycare Center- through the Project CFRT-BATA Christian Formation
Reading Tutorial Book and Toy Activities Series 2 in collaboration with the Division
Federation SSG.
The said activity took place at the Dontogan Covered Court on March 18,
2023 at 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon where the student leaders, volunteer teachers, and
other students from various schools in Baguio rendered their time to do a reading
tutorial session with the pupils of the said barangay.
The program started with a prayer headed by the KPSEP club president Ms.
Bismah Eguid. Later on, the nationalistic song proceeded through Ms. Vea Moana
Guinongo, the Girls Scout of the Philippines president. Then the preliminaries were
presented by Ma’am Josephine P. Danis the SSG/BKD/ and Interact Club Adviser.
Furthermore, Ma’am Augie Pearl Simangan rendered the welcome remarks. The
student leaders headed by Clyde Macam the Alisto Club president performed an
intermission to entertain the participants of the projects. Moreover, the student

students how to wash their hands properly, how to brush their teeth properly, and
how to comb their hair properly. Lastly, the student leaders performed and taught the
daycare students the different Christian action songs, such as the love for Jesus, roll
over the ocean, pray every time, and who is that man.
Later on, all the participants enjoyed their snacks and then reading tutorial
proceeded smoothly. Teachers and student leaders from different schools were able
to teach reading to the pupils using the CVC reading material that was prepared and
handed books for them to use. Then to conclude the activity, a community dance
was done with the help of the student leaders and the Sto.Tomas National High
School teachers.
The activity was able to help student leaders understand the importance of
inculcating a reading habit and appreciation of books to the pupils. Teachers and
learners brought joy to the children and to be a reminder that whatever situation they
may be in, there will always be someone that is ready to give love, hope and care.
