CLASS: VII SUBJECT: SCIENCE

CH.1 NUTRITION IN PLANTS

Q1. MCQ
Q1: Pitcher plant traps insects because it
(a) is a heterotroph
(b) grows in soil which lack in nitrogen
(c) does not have chlorophyll
(d) has digestive system like human beings
Q2: This is an essential component without which photosynthesis will not occur in leaves
(a) Guard cells
(b) Chlorophyll
(c) Vacuole
(d) Space between cells
Q3: In this mode of nutrition two organisms live together. One provides shelter, water and nutrients while
the other prepares and provides food. Identify the mode of nutrition
(a) saprophyte
(b) parasite
(c) autotroph
(d) symbiosis

Q.2 True or False

1. Plants which synthesise their food themselves are called saprotrophs.

2. Solar energy is converted into chemical energy during photosynthesis.

3. Mushroom is a type fungus whose certain kind can be consumed by human beings

Q3. Short answer questions

1. I am small and I can fly. I disturb your sleep, bite you and suck your blood which is my food. Identify me
2. Name the plant which derives its nutrition by climbing on host plant.
3. The food synthesised by the plants is stored as ………..?
Q4. APPLICATION BASED QUESTIONS

1. Nitrogen is essential nutrient for plant growth. But farmers who cultivate pulse crop like green gram,
peas, moong do not apply nitrogenous fertilizers during cultivation. Why?
2. Wild animals like tiger, wolf, lion and leopard do not eat plants. Does this mean that they can survive
without plants? Can u provide a suitable explanation.

3. How is it possible to protect our articles made up of leather and crops in field from spoiled by fungi?

Q5 PASSAGE BASED QUESTION

Usually crops require a lot of nitrogen to make proteins. After the harvest, the soil becomes deficient in
nitrogen. The bacterium called Rhizobium can take atmospheric nitrogen and convert it into a soluble form.

Most of the pulses (dals) are obtained from leguminous plants. In return, the plants provide food and
shelter to the bacteria. They, thus, have a symbiotic relationship.

ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS

1.Which is the nutrient mineral which helps in synthesis of proteins for crops?

2. Name the bacteria which helps to convert atmospheric nitrogen into soluble form?

3. Pulses are obtained from which plants?

CH.2 NUTRITION IN ANIMALS

Q1MCQ … … … … .. .1MARK
Q1: The pointed teeth in the buccal cavity are called:
(a) incisors
(b) canines
(c) premolars
(d) molars
Q2: Bile juice is stored in
(a) liver
(b) pancreas
(c) gall bladder
(d) stomach
Q3: The inner walls of the small intestine have millions of small finger like projections called
(a) villi
(b) trachae

(c) appendix
(d) oesophagus

Q.2ASSERTION AND REASON QUESTIONS

Directions for assertion and reason question

These questions consist of two statements each, printed as Assertion and Reason. While answering these
questions you are required to choose any one of the following four responses.

a. If both the assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion

b. If both the assertion and reason are true and the reason is the not the correct explanation of the
assertion

c. If the assertion is true but the reason is false

d If both the assertion and reason are false

1. Assertion : Rhizobium do fix atmospheric nitrogen

Reason : Rhizobium is generally found in the root nodules of leguminous to supply nitrogen to plants

2. Assertion : Cuscuta is a parasite

Reason : Leech is also a parasite as they do not get nutrition from host.

3. Assertion : The fungus do not grow on bread.

Reason : All fungi are harmful to us

Q3. 1MARK QUESTIONS
1.Define nutrition
2.Name the process by which autotrophs prepare food.
3. Name the scientist who experimentally demonstrated that plants produce oxygen and purify
Q4 APPLICATION BASED QUESTIONS

1. Sunlight, chlorophyll, carbon dioxide, water and minerals are raw materials essential for photosynthesis.
Do you know where they are available? Fill in the blanks with the appropriate raw materials.

(a) Available in the plant: ………

(b) Available in the soil: ………

(c) Available in the air: ………

(d) Available during day : ………

Question 2.We should not eat hurriedly. Give reason

Question 3.The long structure of small intestine is accommodated in small space within our body.
Comment.

Q5 PASSAGE BASED QUESTION

ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS

1.What are secretions of stomach?

2.Where is bile stored?

3.What is the function of large intestine?

3. Paheli obtained fibres from the fleece of sheeps she has and dyed in various colours, why??

QIV. Read the passage carefully and answer the questions given below:
Female silk moth lays hundreds of eggs at a time. The eggs are stored carefully on strips of cloth
or paper and sold to the silkworm farmers. The farmers keep the eggs under hygienic conditions
and under suitable conditions of temperature and humidity.
The eggs are warmed to a suitable temperature for the larvae to hatch from eggs. This is done
when mulberry trees bear a fresh crop of leaves . The larvae called caterpillars or silkworms , eat
day and night and increase enormously in size.
