Who! ore you doing to prepore for

iappiness in the physical comforts of
he external world. and pursuing free·

reedom. religious freedom or
~conomic freedom. Vet what has oil
his external clamoring for change
)rough!? - only more unhappiness.
:>oin and war. The 20th century hos ol·
eody shown countless examples of this
:lilemma. Today's technology and cul·
·ure would be virtually unrecognizable
:o the 19th century man. Jet speed
lransportotion. satelite speed com-
Tlunicotion. computer capacity infor·
motion banks. nuclear war and o
consumer-leisure society were not even
dreamed of. Whal ore we going to do
in the next 20 years? How are we going
to enter into lhe 21st century? We ore
now consciously or unconsciously mok·
ing our future.
The Nuclear Reality
Our technology has mode us in·
credibly efficient ot destroying our·
selves in war. What 19th century mon
could envision the building of concen-
tration comps with gos chambers and
crematoriums where 6 million people
were killed? Today we have stockpiles
of bombs. each capable of com·
pleiely annihilating a major city. The
Russians now have the nuclear capoc·
ity of destroying America 20 times over.
while the Americans have enough
bombs to destroy the USSR 30 times;
and more and more countries ore en-
tering this suicidal nuclear race. With
computers programmed to conduct
the massive nuclear altocks and
counter-attacks. one push of o button
could start the war to put on end to hie
on this planet. There will be no need for
soldiers and pilots to fly anywhere. the
computers will finish their missions of
destruction in less ihan one hour. Just
imagine the effect of a city struck by
just one hydrogen bomb: Everything
within three miles of the bomb will be
vaporized. The heat created will scorch
and burn lo nothing every1hing within 10
miles of the explosion. Within the next 20
mile radius. every1hing will die within
ten minutes of heat and lock of oxygen.
In the next 20 miles. everything will die
within fiffeen days of burns and radia-
tion. There will be no food. all the water
will be contaminated by radiation Mil·
lions of dead corpses lying everywhere,
can you believe it? The wounded will
die miserably with no doctors or hospi-
tals. The entire world will be contami·
noted for thousands of years. And what
will happen to the few survivors? The
people who die will be the happy ones.
The radiation will be so horrible that
thousands of babies will be born with·
ouf arms and eyes. All communications
will be wiped out. All the cultivable
lands will be completely destroyed. So
this crucial next 20 years is not a time lo
be creating or reinforcing emotional
distinctions between language.

or any other fanatical movements. Sur·
vival into the 21st century demands
stability, tolerance and unity
Survival Beyond
The Age Of Drugs
Doctors today ore treated as if they
know everything. Bui 21st century surviv·
ol demands o whale new medicine.
Whal doctors are doing now will be
absolutely meaningless and danger-
ous by 21st century standards. Just as
today's doclors are shOcked by what
was done in 18th and 19th century
medicine. the massive, often indis·
criminale prescription of drugs will be
seen as absolutely meaningless and
dangerous in the 21st century. People
will live even longer supported by ortifi·
cial kidneys, artificial heart. artificial
livers ... ond artificial thinking. Genetic·
oily programmed children will be
mass produced, artificially inseminated
in test lubes and geslot.ed in rented
wombs. Medical mind-control will be
used more and more as the technology
develops. and self-control of the mind
continues to decrease. With electrodes
implanted in the brain, any emotion
con be reproduced artificially. just like
changing the channel on the television.
Even now these techniques ore being
used with terminal patients to creole
the mental sensation of a painless state.
You will have to know how to control
your own mind to escape this fate.
Life In The Computer
Age: Leisure
Suppose we do survive the threat
of nuclear war. we will still have to face
unoccupied. undisciplined minds in o
society of more outomotion and more
leisure. In the 19th century. we hod to
cut fire wood and bum it. Now ii we
wont heat, oil we need to do is tum the
thermostat up and oulomolicolly the
heat comes on to the desired tempera-
ture. In the 21st century. there will be few
chores left to maintain doily survival.
Household computerized robots will
cook meals. clean the house. mow the
lawn. babysit, etc When combined
with o drastically reduced work week
of only 2'h days, the undisciplined man
will be plagued with even more leisure
time. Already the majority of westerners
do not know what lo do with their lei-
sure lime. nor what lo do with their
minds except to watch TV. or go and
get drunk or drugged, or hove their
senses overstimulated with rock and
disco music.
Mind Altering Drugs
The Most Dangerous
Threat
The most common refuge scughl
by the untrained m:r.d. running wild
with loo much leisure. is the use of
drugs ... tranquilizers. vollium. mari-
juana. heroine. LSD, alcohol. etc. Dmgs
allow children to poss through child·
hood with no understanding of disci·
pline. ethics. morals or discrimination;
and allow adults to abandon these

Already the voluntary use of drugs to

Sivononda Ashram Vogo Comp.
Siluoled in the heart of the Laurentian
Mountains. 45 miles north of Montreal:
set amids! verdant forest, streams and
lakes, the Yoga Camp is an ideal local·

structured around early morning medi·
