Chapter 1

● Ralph and Piggy are introduced in the beginning

● Ralph and Piggy discovered a shell which they used to call the other kids
● There are littluns and biguns
● Jack and the choir are introduced
● They held an election where Ralph was chosen to be a chief
● Ralph let Jack handle the choir and hunt for them
● Piggy was assigned to take the names of the children.
● Ralph, Jack, and Simon went on a trail to identify if they were on an island.
● They are successful in determining that they were on an island and start to go back
to the lagoon. On their way, they encountered a pig but were unable to catch/kill it.

Chapter 2

● Ralph and the crew went back to the lagoon and had a meeting.
● They discuss the plans and put a fire on the mountain as a signal smoke.
● The small kid mentioned the beastie a snake-like beast
● They went on and create a fire on the top of the mountain and a group of 2’s is
needed to monitor the fire regularly.
● The little kid that mentioned the beast died or went missing.

Chapter 3

● Jack is thirsty on killing/hunt a pig but he could not catch one

● Ralph and Simon worked on the hut and Ralph is frustrated that the other kids do
nothing but play
● Jack and Ralph argue about Jack’s obsession with killing a pig rather than helping in
building huts.
● Simon helped the littluns get ripe fruits. Then wonders of an isolated place.

Chapter 4

● Roger and Maurice left their duty on the mountain and proceed to bully the littluns.
Maurice felt guilt.
● Jack paints his face for hunting. Then took the hunters including the twins to hunt a
pig.
● While they are on a hunt. A ship crosses the island but the fire on the mountain was
put out. It became a missed opportunity to get rescued.
● Later on, the hunters finally killed a pig and were very proud of it.
● Jack and Ralph argued again about the priorities of their so-called “society”. This
raises the tension between the two and Piggy joins the argument but it just left him
harmed. Jack punched Piggy and one of the lenses of his glasses was broken.
● They cooked the pig and Ralph called a meeting.

Chapter 5
● Roger starts the meeting and wants to set things in order such as the bathroom uses
and the fire usage.
● The meeting also talked about how happy they were before but now it all crumbled.
They are disorganized and afraid of the beast.
● As the meeting goes the topic of beasts is brought up. Jack stated that the island is
too small to have a beast and he swear to kill it if there is a beast. And Piggy agrees
that there is no beast on the island. Phil thinks that the beast came from the water.
Then the boys argue. Simon suggests that they are the beast. They all make fun of
him. The arguing continues.
● Jack storms away from the meeting with his hunters, who make horrific sounds in the
darkness.
● Piggy begs Ralph to call them back with the conch. He wishes that there are grown-
ups to make things right
.
Chapter 6

● The chapter begins with a description of a plane explosion more likely a result of an
air battle. Then a figure parachuted that appears to be a dead person. The dead
body glided to the mountain close to the mountain fire.
● The Twins that are assigned to look after the fire felt that there is a beast in the
mountain but in reality, it is the dead parachuter. So they rushed back to the base
and told Ralph, Simon, and Piggy about it.
● They held a meeting, Ralph told the others that they’ll hunt the beast but Piggy
insisted that they should stay because the port is the safest place. But they rejected
that idea. Piggy tried talking again but jack interfered. Piggy stated that he had the
conch and that he has the right to speak but Jack argued that the rules do not imply
anymore.
● Piggy was left in the port with the littluns and every bigguns is joining the hunt
including Ralph. Simon is frustrated that he can’t speak up.
● During the hunt, he told the boys to hide and he’ll hunt alone. Jack, later on, followed
him. They can’t find the beast. Jack thinks he’s found a good fort from which to throw
rocks at people. Ralph said that they should go to the mountain to relight the fire but
Jack replied that he worried too much about the fire. After not finding the beast, they
returned to the base.
● In their base where everyone is playing. Ralph still insists to relight the fire on the
mountain.

Chapter 7

● Ralph wondered and dreamed of bathing himself and told himself that he’ll be on the
island forever but Simon told him that he’ll go back where he came from.
● They found pig droppings and they decide to hunt them. The boar just went through
the hunters but Ralph can throw a spear and hit in its snout. This made Ralph proud
and excited but Jack don’t mind.
● They soon continued the search for the beast and got close to the mountain. The
boys got nervous but they still carry on. Ralph said that they can’t let piggy be alone
with the littluns. The boys are scared to go back alone, so Simon volunteered.
● Ralph wanted to stop the expedition because it was getting dark but Jack asked him
if he was scared so they continue. The boys are too scared to climb the mountain
during the night except for Jack. Jack challenged Ralph again so they climb the
mountain and Roger joined them too.
● Ralph thinks that the search at night is pointless and foolish to continue but Jack
keeps on walking and then came back and said he saw something. The three boys
saw the figure of the “beast” and run away as fast as they can.

Chapter 8

● The Boys returned to the base and Jack told everyone that they saw the beast.
Jack’s speech made it look like Ralph did not contribute to anything and do is talk. He
called a vote if they want to kick Ralph as a chief. But he did not win therefore he
walked away and said “I’m not gonna play any longer”. He invited them to join them
as he walked away.
● Ralph did not want Jack to left the crew but Piggy told him to let jack go. He still
wishes that he come back. Simon told them to return to the mountain but they did not
take him seriously.
● Piggy suggested setting a fire on the beach and everyone agrees. The boys gather
wood. The littluns sing and dance.
● Roger, Bill, Maurice, and other biguns escape into the woods, following Jack.
● Simon has also disappeared into his secret spot.
● Jack and the other hunters hunt a mother pig. They removed its guts and it made
them bloody. They also took its head and put it on a stick as an offering to the beast.
● The head of the pig was swarmed by the flies.
● The hunters rushed to the beach to steal fire.
● Simon arrives at the pig’s head after the hunters have left. He hallucinates the pig’s
head is speaking to him. The pig head refers to himself as the lord of the flies. The
pig’s head tells Simon he can’t escape. The pig head told him that he is the beast,
and he is part of Simon.
● The hunters invited Ralph and his crew to a feast and they decided to go to the feast.
● Simon passes out while hallucinating.

Chapter 9

● Simon wakes up and wanders to the mountain, he, later on, discovers the truth about
the beast. That it is a dead parachutist. And he heads immediately to the beach to
inform others.
● A storm was coming
● Ralph and Piggy debate on going to the feast, they want meat but they also need to
be safe. They later on go to the feast.
● When they arrived at the beach where Jack and the hunters held the feast. Jack
ordered his hunters to give them meat. Jack also established his power by asking if
anyone has eaten as much as they like.
● After eating, Jack asked them if anyone who want to join their tribe. Some kids said
that they will join. Ralph told Jack that he is the chief but Jack doesn’t care about
Ralph’s power and the rules.
● When Jack asked again who wants to join, the storm begins and they started to
dance and chant “kill the beast”. Coincidently, Simon just arrived at the beach but he
was mistaken for the beast. They killed him with their own hands.
● Because of the storm, the dead parachutist was blown to the beach and the boys ran
away from it. Simon’s body was washed out of the sea.

Chapter 10

● Ralph, Piggy, and Samneric are the only ones left in the original tribe.
● Ralph and Piggy express their horror over witnessing Simon’s murder. All of them 4
doesn’t participate in the murder.
● Jack and his crew have taken up residence at the fort.
● Roger approaches and is told of one of the boys (Wilfred) being tied up and whipped.
Jack and his tribe have been transformed into savages.
● They plot to steal fire. They raid Ralph and Piggy’s camp and steal Piggy’s glasses.

Chapter 11

● Piggy declares his intention to confront Jack and demands his glasses back. The four
boys go to castle rock, conch in hand.
● Ralph blows the conch at the fort entrance. Ralph and Jack spar. Ralph demands
Piggy’s glasses. Jack’s savages tie up Samneric.
● Piggy tries to talk sense into the savages. Roger wedges the giant rock loose. It
smashes the conch and knocks Piggy off the cliff.
● Jack and the others throw spears at Ralph, who runs away.

Chapter 12

● Ralph flees and returns at night to speak with Samneric who are the new guards.
They warn Ralph to go away. Ralph learns the tribe will hunt him the next day like a
pig.
● Roger is sharpening a stick at both ends
● Ralph hides in a thicket. One of the twins gives away Ralph’s location.
● They eventually fill the thicket with smoke. Ralph charges out and runs for his life.
The hunters pursue. Ralph notices the island has caught fire.
● The hunters chase Ralph down to the beach where he finds a naval officer there to
rescue them.
