Design :-
As the canal bed level is higher than the H.F.L. of the River/Drain, So a Aqueduct will
be suitable. The Earthen bank of the canal will be continued without fluming the earthen canal
section with a Service Road in the continuation of its Left Bank.

1.0 Design of drainage Water way Pw for discharge Q =

2.0 Fixing the Size of the Barrels :-

The assumed velocity through the barrels 'V' =
Therefore, height of the Barrel required = (Q/V*Wc) =
Hence, providing 3 rectangular barrels of each
2.0 m high.

Actual Velocity through barrel =

3.0 Head Loss through the Syphon Barrels :-

The head loss through the syphon barrels is computed by Unwin's formula as equal to
(neglecting velocity of approach).
h = (1 + f1 + f2*(L/R))*(V2/(2*g))

where, f1 = coefficient of loss of head at entry = 0.08

f2 = a*(1+(b/R)), where the values of a = 0.00316
for cement plastered barrels and R is Hydraulic Mean Depth for Barrels.
R = A/P = 0.600 m
L = Length of the Barrel = 50.530 m

So, f2 = 0.00369
h = 0.012 m is Afflux or Loss of Head(HL)
The High flood Level of drain/River is 465.170 m
So, D/S H.F.L = 465.170 m
U/S H.F.L = D/S H.F.L + Afflux = 465.182 m

width of canal in the flumed portion= 50.53

Provide 2in 1 splay in contruction and and 3 in 1 aplay in expantion transition.
Length of contraction transition= 6.5

Length of expantion transition= 9.75

Length of barrels in the flumed portion(approximately assumed)= 13.07

In the transitions,the side slopes of the section shall be warped from 11/2:1 to vertical.

4.0 Launching Apron (Boulder pitching) :-
(I) At D/S :-
The launching apron will be provided in 1.5 times 'D' =
(II) At U/S :-
The launching apron will be provided in 1 times 'D' =

As per U.S.B.R, the size of the stone used Va

in launching apron is given by
dm

Where, Va = Avg. velocity Va = (1/n)*(A/P)(2/3)*S(1/2)

dm = mean diameter of stone
A= 11.3934 sq.m
P= 18.412 m
R= 0.6188 m
Normally, thickness of launched apron should be 1.5 to 2 times the mean dia d m of boulders.
But, from practical consideration provided thickness of launching apron
