COMMENTS
1 Congratulations!
2 Dear student. Thank you for the effort you have put into the assignment. Please have a look at the
feedback provided. The tips and guidelines must be used in future assignments so you don’t make the
same mistakes again and lose marks unnecessarily. All the best on your academic journey!
3 Please note you must put in a title/cover page first, then followed by your declaration.
4 This title page information must go before your declaration.
5 Please, note the correct level of headings and sub-headings are as follows: First level: bold and caps
Second level: sentence case and bold Third level: sentence case, bold and italics See CMNALLE,
please.
6 Please start with a capital letter: Four
7 Please note it is spelled Conclusion Not Conclussion Please proofread work before submitting it and
run a spell checker.
8 The introduction needs to reflect the specifics of your assignment more accurately. It is important to
provide an overview of the sub-topics of the sections.
9 Please, note the correct level of headings and sub-headings are as follows: First level: bold and caps
Second level: sentence case and bold Third level: sentence case, bold and italics See CMNALLE,
please.
10 Please note you only needed to write one introduction at the beginning of the assignment based on all
three sections, as per assignment instructions.
11 Please double check the spelling of the authors' surnames - it is Nakayama and not Nakaya, for
example. Accuracy is important in academic writing.
12 Please note we use UK English in South Africa, meaning we do not use the "z" but the "s". So it is
categorising and not categorizing.
13 You have to give an example of stereotyping. See memo: The first barrier that can be discerned in the
above scenario is stereotypes. Martin et al. (2013:34) define stereotypes as "widely-held beliefs about
a group of people and are a form of generalisation". For example, the belief that black managers are
incompetent and that female managers are emotional is an example of stereotyping.

15 Theory lacks detail and substance, please see memo: Explain how South Africa’s historical context
influences communication among the employees at the multinational company. (5) According to
Martin et al.(2013), it is important to examine the historical context of intercultural communication. In
South Africa, the history of colonialism and apartheid influences how groups communicate. For
example employees at the company concerned sit only with members of their cultural group – this
(informal) segregation in the workplace is a result of the legacy of apartheid. Communication problems,
such as stereotyping and ethnocentrism, can also be attributed to the legacy of colonialism or
apartheid.
16 Please note the assignment instructions were to write only one conclusion at the end of the
assignment based on all three sections.
17 Please note you need a full stop before a new sentence, or you have to change the capital letter of
"This" to a lower case letter. Please proofread before submitting.
18 Please erase the full stop before "while". Please proofread work before submitting.
19 You sometimes have spaces between questions and sometimes you don't - please keep this
consistent to give the document a professional look.
20 Please place full stops between sentences. Proofread before submitting.
COMMENTS
21 We use "s" and not "z" for organisational.
22 Start bracket before "University".
23 There is no need to write the word "states" here with a capital letter. Please proofread your work before
submitting and run a spell checker on it.
24 We do not usually use "I" in academic writing. See CMNALLE please.

28 Congratulations, you have full marks for sections B and C as all your theory is in place. Please
however watch your use of capital letters and your format for in-text references. See CMNALLE.
29 Spelling mistake Correct: Conclusion
30 Please note it is not necessary to write "Assignment" here with a capital letter as it is not a proper
noun.
31 Please note the use of spacing in your source list, for example between the initials, ampersand and
next author's details. See CMNALLE please.
32 Please note: The title of the book is italic, but not the publisher.
