LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

I. Learning Objectives
A. Content Standard:the learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of sets and the
real number system.
B. Performance Standard:the learner is able formulate challenging situations involving sets
and real numbers and solve these in a variety of strategies.
MELC: Performs the fundamnetal operations on integers.
II. Learning Competencies: At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to;
1. Explain the rules on adding and subtracting of integers ;
2. Solve problems involving addition and subtraction of integers; and
3. Recognize the importance of using integers in real life.
Learning Content: Addition and Subtraction of Integers

GAD: Shared-Decision Making

III. Learning Tasks:

A. Presentation of the lesson:
1. Review: In this 5 minute drill, we will graph an integer on a number line, writing its opposite,
and deriving the relationship between that integer and its opposite.
1. What number is the opposite of negative nine?
2. On a number line, which integer is halfway between any number and its opposite?
a.The number’s opposite
b.The number
c.Zero
3. William knows that −5 is 5 units to the left of zero on a number line, and that the
opposite of −5 is 5 because it is the same distance from zero in the opposite direction.

What is the relationship between −5 and the opposite of 5?

a.They are the same.
b.They are opposites.
4-5 Answer the questions about the points on the number line.

What distance away from zero is the selected number?

If you start at the selected number and move toward zero, do the numbers get smaller or
larger?
a. smaller
b. larger
If you start at the number that is opposite the selected number and move toward zero, do
the numbers get smaller or larger?
a. larger
b. smaller
2. Motivation:
Before we start, let’s have a math trick.
Are you ready!Get any piece of paper and ballpen.Write your month number from your
birthday. then multiply by 5.next add 9.multiply by 5 once again then add your birthdate and last
subtract 165. You will surprise cause you will have the month and day you were born.

What have you notice in the trick?

B.Lesson Proper:
1. Discussion of the Lesson
Our lesson for this day is all about adding and subtracting integers.
Adding two positive integers results in positive integers, whereas adding two negative
integers will result in the sum with a negative sign. But, the addition of two different
signed integers will result in subtraction only and the sign of the result will be the same
as the larger number has.
- Rules for Adding Integers
Like Sign: (+)(+);(-)(-)
-To add integers with like sign add the number and copy the common sign.
- Example: 4+8=12
(-5)+(-5)= -10
-Unlike Signs: (+)(-);(-)(+)
- To add integers with unlike sign subtract them and copy the sign of the greater
value.
- Example: -3+5=2
-8+2= -6
- Rules for Subtracting Integers
- To find the difference between two signed numbers, add the negative (or the opposite)
of the subtrahend to the minuend.
- Example: -62-(-135)= 73
29-86= -57
In order for you to understand let’s have more examples.
1. 10+(-3)=7
2. -10-6= -16
3. -62-(-105)= 43
4. 30-70= -40
GROUP ACTIVITY
 For Group 1, You will perform the activity on algebra tiles.
Activity 1. Algebra Tiles
Direction: Perform the addition and subtraction of integers using Algebra Tiles.
now go to your respective groups.
(the teacher will demonstrate how to use the algebra tiles and will give an example)
reprsenatative of each group, get your materials here.
I will give you 3 minutes to do that, then choose your representative to present your work.
let’s begin!
Add 5+2
Add (-5)+(-3)
Subtract-8-(-2)
Subtact-4-(-3)
Subtract 8-(-5)
 For Group 2, You will create a yell about integers
Activity 2: ChanTegers!
Direction: Construct a yell to help students remember how to add and subtract intgers.
 For Group 3, You will perform a Mathematics Dance
Activity 3: Mathematics Dance
Direction: Perform the Mathematics Dance in a very creative way.
(Your performance will be graded using rubrics)
C. Wrap Up:
1. What are the rules in adding and subtracting intgers?
2. What are the two signs that we need to consider?
3. Cite an example of problem where you can apply the adding and subtracting integers in
daily living.
D.Application:
1. Directions: Read carefully and solve
Ana enters the elevator from the basement of the parking garage and takes it to the 11th
floor for lecture. Then she takes the elevator two floors down for a workshop. On what floor will
Ana be if she then goes down seven floors for snack?

1.How many flights did she travel in total?

2.How did you come up with your answer?

3.Illustrate and explain your solution.

E. EVALUATION: Direction: In a ½ sheet of paper answer the following.

1. -8+20
2. 90-105
3. (-23)+(-31)
4. -2+4
5. -1-8
6. -6-11
7. 7+(-8)
8. 4-7
9. -15-(-20)
10. -5-5
