What famous inventors and inventions do you know about? Has their

work changed the world?

FARDIER, THE STEAM CAR

Nicolas-Joseph created an automobile with a 50-liter displacement, a two-
cylinder vertical engine, and only three wheels. Some features are the first seat
belts were included in 1959 by Volvo and the first autonomous car dates back to
1939.
GASOLINE ENGINE
German Nikolaus Otto had built an internal combustion engine, utilizing a four-
stroke piston cycle. Now called the "Otto cycle" in his honor, the design called
for four strokes of a piston to draw in and compress a gas-air mixture within a
cylinder resulting in an internal explosion.
INTERNET
Ada Lovelace, Nikola Tesla, Paul Otlet y Vannevar Bush, were pioneers in
programming and opening a path towards the digitization of information. The
first practical schemes for the Internet came in the 1960s, when Licklider
popularized the idea of an "Intergalactic Network" of computers. Later, computer
scientists developed the concept of "packet switching".
AIRPLANE
The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur are the inventors of the airplane that
was a biplane which they called Flyer. The pilot lay on the lower wing of the
plane, while the engine was located on the right side of the plane, and turned
two propellers located between the wings.
THE LIGHT BULB
Thomas Edison. Joseph Swan inventor sog the light bulb that was made on
October 21, 1879, after many years of experiments and failures. This discovery
marked the beginning of commercially manufactured light bulbs and in 1880,
Thomas Edison’s company, Edison Electric Light Company began in marketing
its new product.

STEAM ENGINE

In 1698 Thomas Savery patented a pump with hand-operated valves to raise

water from mines by suction produced by condensing steam. In about 1712
another Englishman, Thomas Newcomen, developed a more efficient steam
engine with a piston separating the condensing steam from the water.
