Lesson Plan in Mathematics for Grade 7

I. Objectives

1. Determine the sum of the interior angles of convex polygons.

2. Solve problems involving interior angles of convex polygons.

KBI: Observe orderliness and accuracy in one’s work.

II. Content and Materials

A. Topic: Sum of the Interior Angles of a Polygon
B. Reference: Learner’s Material. P. 217
C. Materials: Protractor, Ruler, Laptop, Prepared Visual Aids
D. Concept:

The sum of the measures of the interior angles of a convex polygon is equal to
two less than the number of sides of the polygon times 180°. In symbols,
S n =(n−2)180 ° , where n stands for the number of sides of the polygon.

III. Procedure
Priming Activities
A. Check the assignment.
B. Drill: With the aid of digital flashcards, let the students identify the following
polygons.

C. Motivation
What can you say about this quote “Life is a sum of all your choices.”?
What do you think is the importance of practicing accuracy in computing
mathematical problems?
D. Presentation of the Lesson
What do you think is our lesson for today?
What do you want to learn from this lesson?

Development of the Lesson

A. Activity
Divide the class into eight groups. Let each group perform Activity 18 on page
217 of the Learner’s Material.
B. Analysis
Guide Questions:
1. How did you find the activity?
2. How many diagonals can be drawn from a fixed vertex to other vertices of
a polygon with four sides? five sides? six sides? seven sides? and so on...
3. What about a polygon with n sides, how many diagonals can be drawn
from a fix vertex to other vertices?
4. How many triangles are formed in a polygon by the diagonals drawn from
a fixed vertex?
5. If a polygon has n sides, how many triangles can be formed?
6. What conjecture can you make about the sum of the interior angles of a
convex polygon?

C. Abstraction
1. Provide the students illustrative examples in finding an unknown angle in the
interior of a polygon.
2. Conceptualization (Teacher guides the students to formulate the conceptualization
through the following questions.)
a. What is the sum of the measures of the interior angles of a convex polygon?
b. How do you find the measure of an unknown angle in the interior of a convex
polygon?
c. Why do you think it is important to observe orderliness and accuracy in one’s
work?
D. Application
In groups of five (5), let them identify objects inside the classroom which
are convex polygons and let them determine the measures of the sum of the
interior angles.

IV. Evaluation (The teacher has to compute the CPL to determine the mastery level.)
With the aid of a digital quiz, let them answer the following problems.
A. Find the sum of the measures of the interior angles of each of the following
polygons.
1. Hexagon
2. Octagon
3. Pentagon
4. Decagon
5. Nonagon
B. Solve.
6. The measures of the three angles of a quadrilateral are 65°, 113°, and 102°,
respectively. Find the measure of the fourth angle.
7. What is the measure of each interior angle of a regular polygon with 18 sides?
8. The sum of the measures of the interior angles of a convex polygon is 1440°,
how many sides does the polygon have?

V. Assignment
Divide the class into groups of 10. Let each group solve these problems and have
them create a slide presentation of their solution.
1. In a convex quadrilateral ABCD, the measure of angle A is twice the measure
of angle B. If B  C  D, find the measure of each angle. D
2. The sizes of the angles of a quadrilateral are A (x + 25)°

x, x + 8, x + 25 and x + 26 degrees. (x + 8)°

Find the measure of each angle of ABCD.
x (x + 26)°
