SOCIAL SERVICE 2023

ACTIVITY: AMARE ET SERVIRE

FACILITATING GROUP: CARITAS SCHOLARS

DATE: March 5, 2023

COMMUNITY:

OBJECTIVES

This activity aims to;

1. Immerse the youth servant leaders to the different communities in which they will

have an encounter with God through sharing of foods and clothes.

2. Experience being in solidarity with the poor, hungry and thirsty through fasting.

3. Take action on their faith through the corporal works of mercy (social service).

RATIONALE

Jesus' mission is to bring the good news to the poor. We will be able to respond and join

Christ in fulfilling His mission to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, and clothe the

naked through corporal works of mercy (CCC #2447). We, the Caritas scholars, as

youth servant leaders, will share in the suffering of God's people, particularly those who

suffer from poverty and hunger. In accordance with this, we will engage and immerse

ourselves in specific communities in order to hear their stories and stand in solidarity

with them. We will be "fasting" every Friday, which means that we will save our Friday

allowance for the people mentioned above; we will have to make a small sacrifice in

order to be in the shoes of those who hunger and thirst; by doing so, we will be able to
understand these people's struggles, and we will realize the importance of sharing and

acting on our faith.

As part of our monthly formation on social justice, which includes the role of the church

as the conscience of society, practicing what is right and just, we identify some issues in

the church and injustices that were experienced by the people, even in our own

community. In response to this ministry of social action, we will try to visit and see what

we can do to respond to the problem of poverty, which includes hunger. This will be a

social service facilitated by the scholars that will challenge them to get out of their

comfort zones and reach out to the margins of society. To bring good news to the

hungry is to share food with them. This will be a service with love, Amare et Servire.

PROCESS (HOW IT WILL BE DONE)

In order to implement this advocacy, the Youth servant leaders will have to do the

following;

1. They will save their Friday allowance for this advocacy; they will contribute a

minimum of 20 pesos and may contribute more depending on their weekly

allowance.

2. They will collect clothes that are no longer worn but are still in good condition to

donate to various communities.

3. The “Friday allowance” will be collected by the assign person and this shall be

effective for four Fridays every month.

4. The group will identify one target community to visit every month starting this

February 2023.
5. In exchange for their generosity and initiative, the scholars will receive 250.00

from CARITAS to purchase another YSLEP T-shirt for Youth servant leaders.
