Lesson Idea

Students will be taught the elements of a personal budget through a teacher-led lesson, then
shown an example of an eBook created by the teacher about the topic. Students will then
make their own story about the personal budget, and be given creative freedom to tell the
content as they wish. Feedback will be given by the teacher to students during the
brainstorming phase, creation of the eBook, and when the final product is done. Students will
be encouraged to share their book with the class if they would like to in a class watch party to
conclude the lesson.

Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:

“Ask 3, Then Me” will be implemented with questions students might have, so they ask
their peers first, allowing me to be more proactive with teaching, as well as harboring
communication skills between students.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This lesson supports two parts of UDL. It supports engagement by giving students creative
control and freedom to approach the eBook lesson how they wish, and supports action and
expression by the software used having multiple ways for students to format and design their
eBook how they see fit.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

By giving creative freedom and free expression to students to present the topics as they wish,
engagement within the students will be higher, as they look forward to making the eBook
however they see, whether with a comedic spin or a very serious tone. This makes the usually
dull subject more fun and appealing, and more likely for the lesson to stick with students
afterwards.
