The document describes a lesson on simple harmonic motion. Students are asked to complete multiple choice questions testing their understanding of how changing variables like pendulum length affects oscillation period. One student, Mr. Valdez, volunteers to provide answers. The teacher confirms Mr. Valdez's answers are correct and has students check their own work. Students are then asked to explain in writing why simple harmonic motion is important in daily life. One student, Ms. Lopez, shares her response that oscillations are ubiquitous natural phenomena and simple harmonic motion is a type of periodic oscillation where acceleration is proportional to displacement, giving examples like pendulums.

Okay, your five minutes start now.
(5 minutes of answering is done)
Let’s see your answer class. Can we have
Ms. Lopez to read her answer? Are you ready Ms. Lopez? Yes, Sir.
Why is simple harmonic motion
so important?
Oscillations are happening all
around us, from the beating of the human heart, to the vibrating atoms that make up everything. Simple harmonic motion is a very important type of periodic oscillation where the acceleration (α) is proportional to the displacement (x) from equilibrium, in the direction of the equilibrium position. A pendulum is a weight hung from a fixed point so that it can swing freely backward and forward. There are many examples of pendulums that we see everyday including a child swinging on a swing and the pendulum on a grandfather clock. The first item we changed in our second experiment was the amplitude. To adjust the amplitude of a pendulum we changed the angle of swing. While doing this, we made sure to keep the period, frequency, length, and mass constant. After changing the amplitude to three different angles, my group observed that as we increased the amplitude, the period increased and the frequency decreased. This shows that the period and frequency are inversely related to each other.
