E. Discussing new Our lesson for today is all about

concepts and giving the place value and value of
practicing new a digit in 4-to-5-digit numbers.
skills #1

A. Teacher Modeling (I Do)

Let us now discuss the place value

and value of a digit in 4-to-5-digit
numbers.

What is place value?

Place value is the value of each
digit in a number. Each digit in a
number has a place value. It also
helps you determine the value of a
digit in a number.

What is value?
Value refers to the worth of each
digit depending on its position in a
number.

What is the difference between a

digit and a number?

Digit is a single numerical symbol

from 0 to 9.
Example:1,2,3,4,5.6,7,8,9

Number is an amount of
something. It can be written with
one or more digits.
Example: 10 is the combination of
digit 1 and digit 0.
315 is the combinations of digit 3,
digit 1 and digit 5.
1,239 is the combination of digit 1,
digit 2, digit 3 and digit 9.

So we can say that 9 is a digit and

156 is a number, 25 is a number
and 7 is a digit.

This time, let us take a look at this

table.

I will determine first what is the

place value and the value of the
given number.

This table shows that the place

value starting at the right has the
smallest value such as ones, tens,
hundreds, thousands, ten thousands
and hundred thousand. Take note
that the place value of a digit is
always ten times as great as the
place value to its right.

Now, let us determine the place

value of the given number 15,243.
Let us recite the place value starting
from the right to left.

15243
ones
tens
hundreds
thousands
ten thousand

Starting from the first spot at the right,

what is the place value of digit 3?

Very good!

Then, what is the value of digit 3?

Very good!

In the second spot what is the place

value of digit 4?

Very good!

Then, what is the value of digit 4? ones teacher!

Very good!

The third spot is digit 2. What is the 3 teacher!

place value and value of it?
Good job! tens teacher!

In the fourth spot, what is the place

value of digit 5?

Very good! 40 teacher!

How about its value?

Excellent!
The place value is hundreds and the
value is 200 teacher!
Lastly, the fifth spot is digit 1 and it
has the place value of ten thousands,
so what is the value of digit 1?

thousands teacher!
I have here another example.
Look at this numbers.

5,000 teacher!
53,482

This number has five parts or digits.

Now, what is the place value of the
underlined digit? Ones, tens,
hundreds, thousand or ten thousands?

10, 000 teacher!

Very good!

Let us look at the number 60,820.

60,820

There are five parts or digits in the

number 60 820.
Now, what is the place value and value
of the underlined digit?

Good job!
Hundreds teacher!
Let us also look the number 2,663.

2,663

This number has four parts or digits.

And what is the place value of the
underlined digit?

Look at this another example.

The place value is ten thousands and
543 the value is 60,000 teacher!

There are three parts or digits of the

number 543.
What is the place value of the
underlined digit?

And finally, let us look at the number The underlined digit is 2 with a place
18. value of thousands and has a value of
2,000.
18

How many digits are in the number

18?
Yeah! It has two digit.
Now, what is the place value of the
underlined digit?

Just always remember digits are the

parts of a number. Pretty simple!
The underlined digit is 4 with a place
value of tens and has a value of 40.

2 digit teacher!

The underlined digit is 8 with a place

value of ones and has a value of 8.

f. Discussing new

skills #2

interpret and identify the place value
and value of the given numbers.

Then the teacher will model them on

how to identify the place value and

is this photo all about and we will
determine what is the place value and
value of the given numbers.

What is the value of ones?

What about the place value of 4?

Tens ma’am!

How about the place value and value

of number 2?
