Mechanics:
a. Flash the cards with numbers.
b. The pupils will form a line to the place value that corresponds their
answer.
c. The more correct answers they get, the more points they will have.

Directions: Give the place value of the underlined digit.

• 973  20.309
• 5 306  500.2345
• 2 410  0.80
• 16 874  2.552
• 1 235  1.8

Ask: How did you find the activity? Did you cooperate? What traits
have you shown to your classmates?

B. Motivation
Show a picture of a copper. Ask the pupils to tell something about
the picture.

Ask : What is a heat conductor (materials that allow heat to pass

through) ? Give examples of heat conductors. (metals like copper,
aluminum, gold, and silver)

C. Presentation
Present this to the class

Copper is a very good conductor of heat. It is the element made of electric

wires. The atomic weight of copper is 63.546 grams (g).

Have the pupils read the sentence. Then ask: What is copper?
What is copper made of? What is the atomic weight of copper?

Performing the Activities

Group the students in 4 working teams and have them perform the
problem.

Raul and Joey love studying. Even though their houses are far
from their school, they still attend their classes everyday. The
distance of Raul’s house to school is 2 kilometers while joey’s
house is 2.25 kilometers away.

The pupils will answer the following questions;

1. What numbers are given in the situation?

2. What kind of number is 2?
3. How about 2,25?
4. Do you know the different place value positions of a decimal?
5. What are the different place value positions to the right of the
decimal point?
6. In 378.5625, what is the place value of 6? What is the value 6?
7. Place value of 5? Value of 5?

Further Questions:

What is the purpose of the decimal point? Do you know the different
place value positions of a decimal?

Further Explanation:
