A. FRANZ PETER SCHUBERT-The proper name for
Franz Schubert songs is lieder, which is the German
word for songs. Ex. Unfinished symphony, Erlking.
B. GIUSEPPE VERDI- His final opera ends with “All
the world’s a joke.” His much-acclaimed works are La
Traviata, Rigoletto (La Donna e Mobile), Falstaff, Otello
and Aida.
C. GIACOMO PUCCINI- He belonged to a group of
composers who stressed realism. Famous operas were:
“La Boheme”, “Tosca”, “Madame Butterfly”, and
“Turandot”.
D. RICHARD WAGNER-He was an advocate of a new
form of opera called “music drama”.
E. GEORGES BIZET-Bizet became famous for his
operas. His most famous opera is “Carmen”.
COMPONENTS OF AN OPERA
1. LIBRETTO - the text of an opera.
2. SCORE - the book that the composer and
librettist put together.
3. RECITATIVE - Declamatory singing.
4. ARIA – an air or solo singing part sung by a
principal character.
DIFFERENT ASPECTS FOR OPERA
1. SOUND/ TONE COLOR- quality of sound that
the singer makes.
2. “BEL CANTO” TECHNIQUE- literally
means beautiful singing.
3. LANGUAGE- Opera singers often sing in
Italian, French, German, or Russian.
TYPES OF VOICES OF SINGERS
For the Male Voice:
1. TENOR- highest male voice
2. BARITONE- Middle male voice, lies between
Bass and Tenor voices. It is the common
male voice.
3. BASS- lowest male voice
For the Female Voice:
1. SOPRANO- highest female voice
2. COLORATURA-highest soprano voice
3. CONTRALTO- lowest female voice and most
unique among females.

A. Greek Theater- European theater began in Ancient
Greece.
THREE TYPES OF DRAMA
1. TRAGEDY- It dealt with tragic events and have an
unhappy ending, especially one concerning the
downfall of the main character.

comedy. It contains comic elements to lighten
the overall mood or a serious play with a happy

interaction between the performer and the

PRINCIPLES OF ART
1. HARMONY in art and design is the visually
satisfying effect of combining similar, related
elements.
2. PROPORTION is the comparison of dimensions or
distribution of forms.
ROMAN THEATER - The usual themes for Roman
theater plays were chariots races, gladiators, and
public executions.
RENAISSANCE THEATER – William Shakespeare,
an English poet, playwright, and actor and
regarded as the greatest writer and dramatist
in the whole world.
NEOCLASSICAL THEATER - the theater was
characterized by its grandiosity. Costumes and
sceneries were highly elaborate.
GREEK THEATER
COSTUMES: Men wore loose floor-length poncho
with a pleated shoulder while Females wore
draped robes.
GESTURES AND MOVEMENTS: Facial expression
was of no importance to Greek actors since they
were always masked.

RECREATION is a voluntary participation in
an activity during free and unobligated time that gives
enjoyment. Recreation embraces both indoor and
outdoor activities that refer to sports and exercise
leading to the attainment of enjoyment as well as
managing our desired weight.
We consider recreation as indoor when the
activity is within the premises of your comfort zone at
home or inside a building. Recreation is outdoor when
the activity is undertaken in a natural, rural, or open
space outside the confines of buildings, usually large
land area that is close to nature.
Participation in active recreation influences your
healthy lifestyle. It improves health condition in many
ways. It also helps you to use the calories better and
sustain a desirable weight.
Lifestyle change is the best way of preventing
illness and early death.
INDOOR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
BADMINTON is believed to have originated from
the game “poona”. Games are held inside the
gym to avoid the effect of air in the flight of the
shuttle.
VOLLEYBALL-the game was called “mintonette”.
OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
HIKING-Hiking is going on an extended walk for the
purpose of pleasure and exercise.
ORIENTEERING-The fundamental skill in
orienteering is orientating the map or setting
the map.
THE MAP - is a picture or representation of the
earth’s surface.

- is a pattern of behaviour that makes you feel
afraid, nervous harassed or in danger.

- is a group of people with similar backgrounds,
occupations, interests, or tastes.

KIDNAPPING
- taking away or forcefully moving a person
against his/her will and holding him/her in
unjust captivity.

- is sexual contact between persons who are so

RAPE
- is forced sexual intercourse, including vaginal,
