ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

PURPOSE:
The main purpose of this assignment is to expose learners to appropriate assessments to
assess early reading development, assess their ability to prepare a lesson plan for English
lessons and teach to children aged six years old.

PART 1: WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT (10 MARKS)


Write a 600 to 800-word essay to discuss the appropriate assessments teachers use to
assess preschool children’s early reading development.

PART 2: LESSON PLAN (20 MARKS)


Prepare a lesson plan for English language activities for 6-year-old preschoolers. The lesson
should aim to develop children’s early reading skills, and the activity should be able to
achieve the learning objectives.

PART 3: TEACHING DEMONSTRATION (20 MARKS)


You are required to do a teaching demonstration based on the lesson plan you have
prepared. Your teaching demonstration should NOT be more than 15 minutes. The teaching
demonstration can be implemented individually without any children participating. Your
teaching demonstration needs to be recorded and the video (size not exceeding 400MB)
must be uploaded separately from your Part 1 assignment in the myINSPIRE submission
system.

PART 4: ONLINE CLASS PARTICIPATION (10 MARKS)

You are required to discuss the following topics in the myINSPIRE forum. Select FIVE (5) of
your BEST postings and paste them to your assignment for submission.

1. Based on the reading of Topic 2, explain how a child acquires language. Discuss how
you facilitate children’s language acquisition in a childcare setting.

2. Based on the reading of Topic 4, describe the oral language development of a child
and what strategies you can apply in a preschool classroom to improve children’s oral
language.
