Similarly, the second floor consist on the bed room, bath room etc. The load has selected as per

requirement of the rooms.

The load type as follows:

Cable Size Calculation

Cable Specifications:
This is 3 phase 4 wire system in which we have 3 phases and 1 neutral wire
The cable used is:
• Single Core PVC for conduit on wall

The cable size has been selected based upon the current of the circuit:
Following are the different sizes:

The size is calculated based upon following rule:

Current rating / 4 = Cable Size
The earthing cable size is half than the phase cable size

Considered one step bigger cable than calculated size.

Cable Rating Table

16 Ampere 2C x 6mm2 + 1C x 2.5mm2
10 Ampere 2C x 4mm2 + 1C x 2.5mm2
6 Ampere 2C x 2.5mm2 + 1C x 1.5mm2
4 Ampere 2C x 1.5mm2 + 1C x 1mm2
2 Ampere 2C x 1.5mm2 + 1C x 1mm2

• Microsoft Excel File – Sheet FF MCB Selection

Ground Floor Main Circuit Breaker:

Three Phase Current = 17900 / (1.732 * (220*1.732)) = 27.12 Ampere

The nearest circuit breaker rating is: 32 Amperes
ELCB Rating is: 40Ampere with 30 mili seconds sensitivity

First Floor Main Circuit Breaker:

Three Phase Current = 19200 / (1.732 * (220*1.732)) = 29.09 Ampere

The nearest circuit breaker rating is: 32 Amperes
ELCB Rating is: 40Ampere with 30 mili seconds sensitivity

Circuit Breaker for Main:

Main Circuit Breaker: 32+32 = 64 Ampere
PROJECT REPORT 14

Ground Floor Power Factor Calculation

Total power = 17900 Watt

Let P.F. 0.8 lagging (Due to induction load)

Improvement power factor is 1.0

cosθ1 = 0.8 lagging

cosθ2 = 1

tanθ1 = 0.75

tanθ2 = 0

𝑃(tanθ1 − tanθ1 ) (17900 ∗ 0.7)

𝐶= = = 824.47 μF
2πfV 2 2π(50)(220)2

𝑄1 = 2πfC × Vc 2 = 2 ∗ 3.14 ∗ 50 ∗ 824.47 ∗ 10−6−3 ∗ 2202 = 12.9𝑘𝑉𝐴𝑅

12.5 kVAR Capacitor bank required to improve power factor up to unity.

PROJECT REPORT 15

Power Factor Calculation for First Floor

Total power = 17900 Watt

Let P.F. 0.8 lagging (Due to induction load)

Improvement power factor is 1.0

cosθ1 = 0.8 lagging

cosθ2 = 1

tanθ1 = 0.75

tanθ2 = 0

𝑃(tanθ1 − tanθ1 ) (19200 ∗ 0.7)

𝐶= = = 884.35 μF
2πfV 2 2π(50)(220)2

𝑄1 = 2πfC × Vc 2 = 2 ∗ 3.14 ∗ 50 ∗ 884.35 ∗ 10−6−3 ∗ 2202 = 13.44𝑘𝑉𝐴𝑅

13.44 kVAR Capacitor bank required to improve power factor up to unity.

PROJECT REPORT 16

Earthing System

Total Load is: 17900+19200 = 37100 kW

Voltage single phase = 220 volts

Total current = 37100 / (1.732 * (1.732 * 220) = 56.215 Ampere

Total overload @ 110% = 54.215 * 1.15 = 61.64 Ampere

The earthing conductor calculation is: 61.64 / 4 = 15.41 mm2

So the nearest bare conductor size is available = 16mm2

A) Digging bore 200 to 250 feet below the surface or near water

B) 10 numbers of 10 feet long copper rods are entering into earth surface and connected to

equipotential bar.

C) 4 numbers of one meter in height Lighting arrestors are installed on the roof top and

connected to equipotential bar through the copper bus bar or earthing conductor.

Equipotential Strip:

Size: 300x12 x5 mm (Length x Width x Thickness)

Earthing conductor: 16mm2

PROJECT REPORT 17

Conclusion:

The villa has designed electrical load. The cable sizes are calculated based upon the load

connected. The main circuit breaker and ELCB has chosen based upon the flow of current. The

load has balanced upon the division of load equally on three phases.

The selection of cable also varies manufacture to manufacturer.

The main circuit breaker is three phase and remaining all circuit breakers are single pole. The

ELCB is earth leakage circuit breaker that save from electric shock or any other leakage of

current.
