1.0 Objective

The objective of this method statement is to describe the specific task that are
required to ensure that all concrete masonry works installation are being done
in accordance with the project technical specifications and in a safe and
orderly manner meeting the requirements of the project

2.0 Scope of Work


This procedure covers the furnishing and installation of all masonry units,
grout, mortar reinforcement and other materials necessary for the construction
of masonry walls. This method statement is typical and applicable for the use
in any section of the entire project which requires installation of CMU in
accordance with the approved plans and specifications.

4.0 Safety Requirements


4.1 All PPEs such as coveralls, safety shoes, safety helmets, safety vests,
safety harness, googles, hand gloves shall be worn by the personnel
at all times during work. Temporary fire extinguisher shall be
available for emergency. Dust masks or respirators shall be worn
when cutting block or handling dry cement.
4.2 The worksite shall be maintained in a clean and tidy condition.
4.3 All work shall be undertaken in accordance with the Project Specification and
all individual activities will be set up in an orderly manner to ensure
compliance with the requirements.

5.0 Key Personnel Duties and Responsibilities


5.1 The Project Manager is the over-all in-charge for the implementation of this
procedure and ensure that his team are aware of this Method Statement. He
should also ensure that all resources needed in the work execution shall be

available and carry out the work as planned without delays and in a safe
manner.
5.2 The Site Manager is responsible in the coordination with site supervisor and
foremen for a safe and proper execution of the works.
5.3 Site Engineer and General F/M are directly reporting to the Site Manager.
They should ensure that the works are carried out in accordance with the
approved drawings, applicable standards and this Method of Statement.
5.4 QC Inspector in close coordination with site personnel shall ensure that the
works are carried out based from the QC project requirements. He is
responsible in conducting and monitoring QC inspection works. Additionally,
he shall ensure that all pertinent QC documentations and records are
prepared and ready for approval.
5.5 Safety Officer is responsible in monitoring the full implementation of all
safety procedures and safety measures at site at all times. Communication
with the Safety Representative is also part of his responsibility.

6.0 Job Safety Analysis

6.1 Generated dust shall be controlled by periodic water spraying.


6.2 The equipment operators shall possess the required licenses and
certificates.
6.3 All necessary personal/protective equipment, as well as harness, be
provided, waering distinctive vests, shall be assignied to help operators
maneuver their equipment.
6.4 The project safety officer is responsible along with the project zone site
engineer for ensuring that all operations are carried out with due regard
to the safety of all project personnel and property.
6.5 No working at height issues anticipated.
6.6 All working activity shall comply with client safety procedure.
6.7 First aid facility will be available entire the period in the work site.
6.8 General management of protection/operation hazards are to be
observed.

7.0 Work Procedure

7.1 Store all materials including masonry units above grade, under cover, allowing
free air circulation and preventing damage, intrusion of foreign materials and
moisture absorption.

7.2 Use of contaminated cementitious material is prohibited.

7.3 Working platforms will be erected execute the CMU work.

7.4 Clear & clean the area. The blocks should be stacked in appropriate
areas near to the final placement/location.

7.5 Construct masonry true to line, level, square and plumb with vertical joints
aligned. Lay in running bond unless otherwise indicated. Align horizontal
courses at intersection walls. Provide full watertight joints in exterior work.

7.6 Use modular layout to minimize cutting and use of units less then 1/3 rd the
standard length.

7.7 Lay all other hollow units with full mortar coverage on horizontal and vertical
face shells but not extending across the webs, apply mortar over full
thickness and height of any units with abutting solid end faces.

7.8 Bond all wall masonry units as indicated on the drawings. Build in all work as
required, including anchors, accessories, sleeves and materials furnished by
other trades as shown in noted on drawing solidly fill spaces around build-in
items with mortar.

7.9 Leave no cells open on surface of walls.

7.10 Mortar shall be freshly prepared and uniformly mixed and be of spreadable,
workable consistency.

7.11 After all ingredients are in the batch mixer, they shall be mechanically mixed
for not less than 3 minutes nor more than 10 minutes.

7.12 Construct mortar joints about 10MM thick, 6MM minimum and 12MM
maximum to maintain 200MM vertical coursing and 400MM horizontal
spacing, unless otherwise indicated in the drawings.

7.13 Joint finish shall be as indicated in the drawings or as specified in the project
specification

7.14 Bond each course at corner, either bond into or anchor at intersections with
metal ties spaced as shown in the drawing

8.0 Testing and inspection


8.1 RFI will be initiated for inspections of as per approved ITP, Quality
Control Plan and Project Specification listed under Technical
Specification or as stated on the latest IFC drawings
