METHOD STATEMENT FOR SECOND FLOOR SLAB CONCRETING

1.0 SCOPE
This method statement describes the procedures and responsibilities of site personnel which are
involved in the work for assembling reinforcement bar for the ground floor column.

2.0 RESPONSIBILITY
2.1 project manager is responsible for all aspects of the work.
2.2 The project site engineers are responsible for proper execution, arrangement, co-ordination
and supervision for quality, safety, and delivery of work.
2.3 The surveyor shall be responsible for the proper levelling and setting out of the area.
2.4 Safety officer will ensure the work process follows the set down safety standard.

3.0 MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENTS


3.1 Concrete truck mixer
3.2 Concrete Pump
3.3 Buckets/vibrator
3.4 Poker vibrator

4.0 PREPARATION
The area for the work to be thoroughly cleaned and marked out and all loose sharp reinforcement
be removed prior to start of work. All access and egress should be cleared. All concrete level be
taken according to specifications.
Slab formwork shall be 15mm thick plywood. The slab formwork shall be placed on top of a timber
frame. The levels of slab shall be checked after the reinforcement work.

5.0 PROCEDURE
Seven (7) days early strength grade 25 ready mix concrete with 150mm slump shall be
placed into slab. The poker vibrator shall be inserted to give sound compaction. Top of the
concrete level shall be maintained properly while concreting.
After 24hours of laying concrete, the surface shall be cured by flooding with water.

6.0 Health and Safety Requirements


6.1 Information to personnel
6.1.1 Before job starts check if protective and safety requirements are provided.
6.1.2 Appropriate PPE must be used by personnel doing the task
6.1.3 Toolbox talk must be done to all personnel prior to entering the site and
adequate supervision by safety officer to ensure the job is carried out in the
safest way possible.
6.1.4 Safety induction must be given to all the personnel prior to entering the site
and adequate supervision the safety officer.
6.1.5 Non-essential personnel will be kept well away from the area of operation
and bank-men will be provided where necessary.
6.2 Use of PPE
6.2.1 All personnel will be issued with and instructed to always maintain safe
working practices as the site civil engineer shall be responsible to ensure
safety procedures are followed.
6.2.2 Safety helmet must be worn by everyone.
6.2.3 Ear protection must be used in areas where the noise level is high.
6.2.4 Eye protection are suitable for the work being carried out.
6.2.5 Appropriate type of hand gloves is used for the activity to be performed.
6.2.6 Personnel working in the vicinity of loading operation will wear safety
helmets, safety footwear and high visibility vests.
6.2.7 Instruct staff in the correct handling and lifting of materials as required for
the handling of materials which could cause injuries to the hands.
6.2.8 Risk assessment letter should be issued by safety engineer in charge before
start of activity and immediately post at the working area during activity.
