IMPLEMENTATION AND CONTROL OF RISK
RISK TASK METHOD OF CONTROL
Site Establishment A solid hoarding will be erected to the
front elevation of the site and along the
defined construction area, with a
personnel site entrance gate at the front.
It will be painted and kept in a clean and
tidy condition throughout the works. All
hoardings/fencing will be regularly
checked and maintained in a clean and
tidy condition and signage will be
positioned so it is visible to warn
members of the public of any potential
hazards surrounding the site
Excavation Works These areas will be protected by shoring
and strutting where necessary.
Underground services The existing underground cables will
carefully be relocated to allow safe
excavation of column bases. The client
will be notified of the intended
relocation.
Cutting existing tree Specialists will be contracted to
carefully cut them to avoid any damage

1
SITE CONTROL
Public awareness People will be made aware of all
potential hazards throughout the
contract
Safety elements Employees will be required to be in full
safety gear throughout the construction
period. Such facilities such as helmets
and dust coats will also be provided to
any person visiting the site for whatever
reason.
A Safety Officer will be stationed at the
site at all times. A fully equipped first
aid kit will also be provided on-site.

CONSTRUCTION STAGES

The whole construction procedure will be as per the work program submitted.
However, I will outline specific main activities and how we intend to accomplish
them safely.

1. Excavation of column bases: Before excavation starts, a trial pit will be

made to ascertain the nature of the existing soil profile. The excavated soil
will later the carted away to the recommended area and approved selected
/imported materials will be used for backfilling.
During the entire process, there will be a standby water pump to be used in
areas where underground water will be encountered.
Strutting and plunking sides of the excavation will be put in place to prevent
the collapse of the adjoining walls.
2. Concrete blinding: Concrete blinding class 15 will be spread at the bottom
of the foundations.
3. Foundations: Reinforcements will be cut, bent, and laid as per the
Engineers bending schedule. Recommended spacer blocks will be laid to
ensure effective concrete cover for the reinforcements.
2
After laying the reinforcements, the Engineer will always be notified to
inspect the reinforcements before concreting. Concrete will be mixed using
the concrete mixer and transportation to the bases will be utilizing
wheelbarrows.
Always cube test will be prepared and the results submitted to the Engineer
for certification.
4. Columns/beams/staircase: The construction will follow a similar procedure
as foundations. Where columns are circular, we intend to use steel formwork
to achieve a fair finish.
5. Reinforced concrete structure: This will be done in strict accordance with
Structural Engineers' specifications. All concreting works will be done at
designated points on the ground floor and hoisting will be done by use of the
hoisting machine. During the whole period of concreting, necessary warning
signs will be put in place to avoid incidences of accidents. All the workers
will be expected to be in full safety gear and a first aid kit will always be on
site just in case of any emergency arising.
6. Roof Construction: All timber to be used in roof construction will be
treated and dried. The work will be executed in strict accordance with the
Engineer’s drawings.
7. Masonry walling: Walling will be in natural hard machine-cut stones.
The mortar will be mixed at a ratio of 1:3 and reinforced with hoop iron at
every alternate course.
Hoisting of the stones to the upper floors will be done by use of a hoist
machine.
8. Finishes: The finishes will be carried out as per specifications and following
detailed drawings.

3
9. Mechanical works: The work will be carried out as per specifications and
following detailed drawings. Comprehensive testing will be carried out
before the handover
10.Electrical Works The work will be carried out as per specifications and
following detailed drawings. Comprehensive testing will be carried out
before the handover
11.Health & Safety objectives/standards for the project
We aim to achieve the following objectives/standards while carrying out the
construction work for this project.
 Prevent accidents and ill health to our staff, clients, (sub)-contractors,
third parties, and members of the public.
 Ensure all works are carried out per all relevant legislation and Codes
of Practice.
 Provide a place of work that is safe and without risk to health, safety,
and welfare to all those involved in the project and third parties.
 Consult and communicate with all those involved in the project and
listen to given feedback.

12.Training for people on site

i. Induction
Before any person commences work on-site, they will receive Health and
Safety Induction Training. We will conduct training for all employees under
their control plus for sub-contract management/supervision who are
thereafter required to induct their workforce. We will maintain a record on-
site of all Induction Training.

4
ii. Risk management
All persons associated with site activities that create any significant risk of
injury will be specifically briefed on the hazards and control measures
applicable to the safe system of work. A record will be maintained of the
briefing/training.
iii. Specific training
All persons employed as plant operators, scaffolders, etc. will be trained to
an appropriate training standard as per DOSH
iv. Toolbox talks
Toolbox Talks will be given to instruct and train employees and sub-
contractors on specific site tasks as and when necessary. These Tool Box
Talks will be recorded and a record maintained on site.

13.Site-specific risk assessment and method statement

The specific Risk Assessments (RAs) and Method Statements (MS) are
proposed to be developed at the start of the project.

14.Welfare Facilities
Welfare arrangements for this project are as follows:
 Washing facilities
 Toilets
 First Aid

5
Conclusion
To ensure compliance with the above-outlined safety construction process
the site manager will be overall in charge of the site supervision. A qualified
safety officer will also be engaged during the construction period.
We will also provide a safety policy document on-site to act as a guide on
ways of achieving project goals effectively and efficiently.
THE END
