Introduction

Internships are an essential component of the modern education system as they provide
students with opportunities to gain practical experience and apply their academic knowledge
in a real-world setting. As a student pursuing an BBA, I had the opportunity to intern with a
start-up that was working on creating a platform for C-suite officials. The internship offered
me a hands-on experience in the field of HR, marketing, and data analysis, and helped me to
develop my professional skills and build my network.

In addition to my personal experience, my internship with the start-up also provided me with
valuable insights into the world of entrepreneurship. I was able to observe first-hand the
challenges and opportunities that arise when starting and growing a business, and gain an
appreciation for the hard work and dedication required to succeed in the competitive start-up
environment.

Working with a start-up also provided me with exposure to a wide range of job roles and
responsibilities. As an HR intern, I worked closely with the marketing team and gained a
better understanding of the skills and knowledge required to succeed in this field. I was able
to observe how different teams collaborate and coordinate to achieve common goals, and how
each team member's unique skills and strengths contribute to the success of the company as a
whole.

Purpose

The purpose of this internship report is to provide a detailed account of my internship


experience at a professional networking start-up. This report serves as a comprehensive
overview of my role, responsibilities, challenges, and key insights gained during my time as
an intern. It aims to showcase the practical application of the knowledge I acquired during my
academic studies and the value I contributed to the organization.

During my internship, I had the privilege of working in the Human Resources department of
the start-up, where my role primarily focused on the backend operations related to sourcing
jobs, cataloguing brand offers, curating industry-specific news, and assisting the marketing
team with data cleaning and analysis. I was entrusted with the responsibility of sourcing job
opportunities from various company websites and creating compelling posts on our platform
to attract C-suite executives who were seeking job transitions.

One of the key challenges I encountered during my internship was handling large volumes of
data. As part of my role, I was responsible for cleaning and organizing data using various
functions in Excel. This required meticulous attention to detail to ensure data accuracy and
consistency. Through this process, I developed a deeper understanding of data manipulation
and analysis, which enhanced my analytical and problem-solving skills.

Additionally, my internship provided me with an opportunity to collaborate closely with the


marketing team. I assisted them in providing relevant data and insights for decision-making.
This experience highlighted the importance of data-driven decision-making in developing
effective marketing strategies. It also emphasized the role of Human Resources in supporting
marketing initiatives by providing accurate and timely data.

Throughout my internship, I gained valuable insights and learning experiences. Firstly, I

As an HR Intern, my responsibilities encompass various crucial aspects of human resources


within the organization. One of my key roles is to actively participate in the recruitment and
selection process. This involves sourcing potential candidates, reviewing resumes, and
coordinating interview schedules. Additionally, I contribute to the onboarding process for
new hires by conducting orientation sessions and assisting with the necessary paperwork to
ensure a smooth transition into the company.

Maintaining accurate employee records is another significant responsibility I handle. I assist


in updating and organizing data in the HRIS (Human Resource Information System) to
ensure its reliability and accessibility. Furthermore, I actively contribute to employee
engagement and performance management initiatives. This includes organizing and
coordinating employee events, preparing materials for performance reviews, and facilitating
the collection of employee feedback.

In support of HR administration, I assist with various tasks such as preparing HR-related


documents, updating employee files, and addressing inquiries from employees regarding HR
policies and procedures. Additionally, I play a role in coordinating training and development

As a BBA student, I possess the foundational knowledge and understanding of business and
human resources principles necessary for this role. My strong interest in pursuing a career in

Experience

Since day one, I was given multiple responsibilities to work on:

1. Sourcing Jobs

Sourcing jobs from various company websites is a critical task that requires attention to detail
and excellent organizational skills. As a Back-End HR Intern at a startup, I had the
opportunity to gain hands-on experience in this area.

The first step in sourcing jobs from company websites is to identify the relevant websites for
the target audience. In our case, we were targeting C-suite officials who were looking to
switch jobs. I researched and identified the top companies in the industry and their websites
that advertised job openings. I then navigated to their career pages to view and evaluate the
job openings that matched our target audience.

Once I identified suitable job openings, I analyzed the job description to create a post that
would appeal to CXO's looking to switch jobs. I carefully crafted the post by highlighting the
key aspects of the job that would appeal to our target audience. I also included relevant
information about the company, such as its mission and values, to help attract potential
candidates.

To make the post more attractive and user-friendly, I formatted it in a way that made it easy to
read and understand. I used bullet points to highlight the key responsibilities and
requirements of the job and included a clear call-to-action at the end of the post to encourage
interested candidates to apply.

2. Provide Assistance with Screening Process

As an intern providing assistance to an HR consultant on screening applicants for a C-suite


position, I had the opportunity to learn about the importance of thorough and effective
screening processes. Our goal was to identify the most qualified candidates for the position
and ensure that they met the required skills and experience.
To begin the screening process, the HR consultant and I first established the key
qualifications and requirements for the C-suite position. We then developed a set of screening
criteria that would allow us to evaluate candidates based on their experience, education, and
skills.

My role in the screening process was to assist the HR consultant in reviewing and evaluating
resumes and cover letters. I carefully read through each applicant's application materials to
determine their relevant experience, skills, and qualifications. I also used various online tools
and platforms to conduct background checks, verify employment history and references, and
ensure that the applicants met the necessary criteria for the position.

In addition to these responsibilities, I also assisted in conducting initial phone interviews with
applicants. These interviews helped to further assess the applicant's qualifications and
suitability for the position. I carefully documented the interview results and presented them to
the HR consultant for further review and consideration.

As the screening process progressed, we narrowed down the candidate pool to a select few
individuals who met the qualifications and requirements for the position. We then conducted
in-person interviews with these candidates, which included questions about their past
experience, leadership abilities, and communication skills. I also assisted in the evaluation
process by providing feedback on each candidate's performance during the interviews.

Overall, providing assistance to an HR consultant on screening applicants for a C-suite


position was an invaluable learning experience. I gained a deep understanding of the
screening process and learned how to evaluate candidates based on their experience and
qualifications. I also learned the importance of effective communication and collaboration in
the HR industry, as our success relied heavily on our ability to work together as a team to
identify the most qualified candidates for the position.
3. Sourcing Industry specific news

As an HR intern at a startup that offers a platform for C-suite officials, one of my key
responsibilities was to source relevant news that is industry-specific and post it on the
company's website to initiate participation from members on the platform.

To begin the process, I had to first identify the industries and topics that were most relevant to
the members of our platform. This involved researching the backgrounds and interests of our
members, and examining the various industries that they were involved in. Once I had a
better understanding of our members' interests, I started looking for industry-specific
publications, blogs, and websites that would provide the most up-to-date and relevant news.

I then worked with the company's content team to craft engaging summaries of each news
piece that we found. This involved not only summarizing the key points of each article, but
also analyzing how the news may impact our members and the industry as a whole. We also
made sure to cite the original source of each article, as we believed it was important to give
credit to the journalists who produced the news content.

Once the news summaries were written, they were posted on our website's news section and
shared on our social media channels. We also created a newsletter that was sent out to our
members on a regular basis, which featured a curated selection of the most important news
pieces from the past week. This newsletter was a great way to keep our members informed
and engaged, while also driving traffic to our website.

Through this experience, I learned the importance of staying up-to-date with industry news
and trends, and how to effectively curate and present this information to our members. I also
developed skills in content curation, writing engaging summaries, and using social media to
promote our content. Overall, my work in sourcing relevant news for our platform helped to
establish our company as a thought leader in the industry, and fostered a strong sense of
community and engagement among our members.
4. Clean data using Excel

Working as an HR intern in a startup that provides a platform for C-suite officials, I gained
valuable experience in working with large data sets and cleaning the data using various
functions on Excel. My work involved collecting data from various sources, organizing it
using Excel, and providing it to the marketing team for analysis and use in their campaigns.

One of the key challenges that I faced in this role was working with large and complex data
sets. However, through this experience, I was able to develop a strong understanding of how
to use various Excel functions to clean and organize data, and to ensure that it was accurate
and relevant to the marketing team's needs.

removing duplicates to ensure the accuracy of the data. Once the data was collected, I then

removing blank cells, and identifying and fixing errors.

Once the data was cleaned and organized, I provided it to the marketing team for analysis.
They used the data to identify trends and patterns that were relevant to their campaigns, such
