Thrane & Thrane TT-3000SSA SSAS:

Configuration instructions for routing Alert messages via

Pole Star Platform

Section 1 – Notes

Note 1: Before following these instructions, it is essential to ensure that the SSAS system you are about to
configure has been registered on the Pole Star Platform, otherwise the alert message routing will not work.
If in doubt, please contact your Pole Star agent or sales contact and quote the 9 digit mobile number (IMN)
of the Inmarsat C SSAS transceiver.

Note 2: The SSAS system should be tested in conjunction with the Company Security Officer (CSO) on
completion of this configuration.

Note 3: The SSAS alert button must be latched for at least 30 seconds before an alert message is generated
and transmitted by the device.

Note 4: The only way to reset security alert reporting from this system is by unlatching the alert button. The
unit cannot be reset over the air.

Note 5: On Section 3 of this document, you can find the procedure to test the unit with the Pole Star platform

Note 6: For instructions on how to remove these settings, please refer to Section 4 of this document.

Section 2 - How to set the SSAS Report message destination

Connect a laptop or a PC to the DB9 connector using a standard DB9 male to DB9 female modem cable.

Run CapSat, EasyMail or a terminal program such as HyperTerminal with 4800 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit
and no parity.

If you are using CapSat or EasyMail then select:

Options > Configuration > Terminal Mode

Access to the SSAS configuration parameters is only granted at ‘sysadm’ user level, please type:

: su sysadm
password: ******** ↵

NB: The factory default password is ‘sysadm’ and is case sensitive. The password may have been changed at
the time of the installation, in which case please request this information from a member of the crew or from
the CSO. Should this information be unavailable, please contact the hardware supplier.

1. The first step involves clearing out a factory default setting. Please type:

: pg -fa 0,104 ↵

2. Check that the mobile number (IMN) has been programmed into the device. Please type:

: se -u ↵

3. If the above command returns ‘0’ (zero), please enter the SSAS terminals correct Inmarsat C mobile
number (IMN), e.g.:

: se –u 411222333 ↵

NB: Replace 411222333 with the correct IMN number.

4. Three recipient addresses can be configured to receive the SSA message. To display the current Ship
Security Alert recipient’s address, type:

: se -am ↵

Pole Star Space Applications Ltd.

5. The next available address list entry should be used. The format of the message is as follows:

: se -am <entry>,<type>,<address>,<param>

Where:

<entry>: Address list entry number: 0-2

<type>: Destination type: 3 for PSDN

<address>: Destination Address:

53533501 for Pole Star.

<param>: Land earth station:

Dependant on the current ocean region (AORW, AORE, POR or IOR)
AOR-W:021; AOR-E:121; POR:221; IOR:321.

e.g. of direction- AORE

: se –am 0,3, 53533501,121

6. To give coverage in all ocean regions, automatic LES selection should also be set up using the
following command:

: se -m 021,121,221,321
7. Final check type:

: pg -fa ↵

The terminal should return:

:Connection AlertCont AlertInt

Default 0 104

If the settings are different, the factory default setting has not been changed. Type:

: pg -fa 0,104 ↵

NB: Please ensure the SSAS device is rebooted once the above instructions have been carried out. This will
ensure that the device is no longer in ‘sysadm’ mode and that the configuration cannot be altered without
the password being re- entered.

Pole Star Space Applications Ltd.

* Please note that it is not necessary to make any change to the normal configuration on the equipment, do
not add any word “test” on the SSAS message. Due to the platform being under test mode, the real alert
received will be processed as a test alert for test purpose.

- When the alert is received, the message will change to “SSAS test activated”.

To reset the alert, please press the button "Reset", a message asking for confirmation will be displayed,
please select "ok".

* Please note that this "reset" is on the platform and not on the equipment. To avoid continuing to receive
alerts on the platform, please reset the alert abord directly on the equipment.

- The system will show a message indicating that the system will reset the ship to normal mode.
This is on the platform, not onboard the ship. And after about 50 minutes, if no more alerts are
received, it will send a poll command, requesting a normal position report.

- If no more alerts are received during the reset process on the platform, the system will change to
"SSAS test ending" and then to "SSAS completed".
