Adverbs usually go AFTER the verb.

*NOTES: Most adverbs come from an adjective, HOWEVER, their use is different.
Not all words ending in –ly are adverbs. E.g.: friendly = adjective.
Adjectives vs. Adverbs

I am a careful driver. I drive carefully .

CAREFUL is an adjective. CAREFULLY is an adverb.

It is describing the noun driver. It is describing the verb drive.


MODIFYING
HOW AND WHEN TO USE THEM:

ADVERBS
• These are adverbs that describe an adjective
or another adverbs.
• For example: very, really, incredibly…
• They should always go BEFORE the adjective
or adverb.

➢ The car wasn’t very expensive.


➢ He runs incredibly fast.
➢ My mom was really mad.

Verbs + Infinitive
WHERE ARE THEY NEEDED?

Many verbs are followed by the infinitive particle “to”


It is needed with the verb so that it can have an object (something to
receive the action)

*Note: this applies to when that object is another verb (action)
