주제 : 나의 롤모델 마이클 센델과 그가 나의 롤모델인 이유

서론 : 나의 롤모델은 마이클 센델이다. 그는 정치철학자이자 윤리학자이고 하버드대학에

정치철학교수로 있다. 그는 정의란 무엇인가라는 책으로 유명하다. 내가 그를 롤모델로 삼는 이유는
그의 성찰적 태도, 그의 강의력, 그의 글 솜씨이다.

My role model is Michael Sendel. He is a political philosopher and ethicist and professor of political
philosophy at Harvard University. He is famous for his book What is Justice. I chose him as a role
model is because of his reflective attitude, his lecture skills and his writing skills

본론 1 : 첫째, 나는 그의 성찰적 태도가 인상 깊었다. 여기서 말하는 성찰적 태도란 개인이 자신의
행위나 태도를 뒤돌아보거나 반성한다는 의마가 아닌 현재의 사회구조나 사회현상을 그냥 넘어가지
않고 다시 한 번 바라보는 태도를 말한다. 그의 성찰적 태도를 보여주는 사례는 능력주의에 대한
비판이다. 그의 저서에서 그는 많은 통계를 통해 능력주의 사회가 개인의 계층 이동에 기여하지
않는다는 것을 보여주며 우리의 상식을 깼다. 그리고  능력주의가 돈의 가치로 직업과 대학을
서열화함으로써 승자와 패자를 나누며, 승자에게는 오만을 패자에게는 굴욕감을 심어준다는
점을 비판했다. 이 성찰적 태도가 나에게 중요하게 다가오는 이유는 나의 꿈은
사회학자이고 사회학자에게 성찰적 태도가 상당히 중요한 자질이기 때문이다.

First, I was impressed by his reflective attitude. The reflective attitude referred to here refers to an
attitude that does not mean that an individual looks back or reflects on his or her behavior, but
looks at the current social structure or social phenomenon once again. An example of his reflective
attitude is criticism of meritocracy. In his book, he broke our common sense by showing through
many statistics that meritocratic societies do not contribute to individual class movements. And he
criticized meritocracy for dividing the winners and the losers by ranking jobs and universities by the
value of money, and for instilling arrogance in the winners and humiliation for the losers. The reason
why this reflective attitude comes to me important is that my dream is to be a sociologist, and for a
sociologist, reflective attitude is a very important ability..

본론 2 : 둘째, 나는 그의 강의력이 인상 깊었다. 그의 강의력이 인상 깊었던 이유는 그의 강의

방법에 있다. 그의 강연에서 그는 단순한 지식을 학생들에게 전달하기보다 많은 사례를
제시하며 학생들의 의견을 묻고 토의한다. 그의 이런 강의방법은 사람들이 내용을 더 쉽게
이해할 수 있게 한다. 강의의 목적은 사람들이 강의 내용을 이해하는 데 있으므로 그는
훌륭한 강의자라고 할 수 있다. 이 점이 나에게 중요하게 다가오는 이유는 또 나의 진로와
관련하여 내가 연구한 내용을 강연을 통해 사람들이 쉽게 이해할 수 있게 하고 싶기
때문이다.

Second, I was impressed by his lecture skills. The reason why his lecture skills are impressive is
because of his teaching method. In his lecture, he presents many cases and asks students' opinions
and discusses rather than simply conveying knowledge to students. His method of teaching makes it
easier for people to understand the content. The purpose of the lecture is for people to understand
the content of the lecture, so he can be said to be a good lecturer. The reason why this point is
important to me is that I also want to make it easy for people to understand what I have studied
about my career through lectures

본론 3 : 셋째. 나는 그의 글 솜씨도 인상 깊었다. 먼저 그의 글 솜씨가 뛰어나다는 것은 그의

저서 정의란 무엇인가가 한국에서 베스트셀러 1 위를 달성한 것과 공정하다는 착각이
아마존에서 정치사상 분야 베스트셀러를 또 달성했다는 것을 통해 증명된다. 그의 글
솜씨가 인상 깊었던 이유는 나도 훌륭한 글 솜씨를 가지고 싶기 때문이다. 나도 내가 연구한
분야에 대한 책을 쓰고 싶다. 훌륭한 글 솜씨를 가지면 사람들이 책을 많이 읽게 되고
사람들이 책을 많이 읽게 되면 나의 연구내용에 대한 접근성이 높아진다는 것이고 이것은
내가 아주 바라는 것이다.

Third, I was impressed by his writing skills. First of all, his excellent writing skills are evidenced by his
achievement of the bestseller list in Korea and on Amazon. I was impressed by his writing skills
because I also want to have great writing skills. I want to write a book about the field I studied.
Having good writing skills makes people read a lot, and when people read a lot, they have more
access to my research, which is what I hope very much.

결론 : 나의 롤모델은 마이클 샌델이다. 그 이유는 그의 성찰적 태도, 강의 능력, 글 솜씨

때문이다. 이 세 가지를 뽑은 이유는 내가 사회학자로서의 꿈을 이루는 데 필요한 것들이기
때문이다.
