In accordance with BS 5975:2019, this form confirms your appointment as Temporary Works Co-ordinator
(TWC).
Responsibilities: Bridges works in Calvert Section with Force Contracting – HS2
Including : ACCESS / SCAFFOLDING, FORMWORK / FALSEWORK, CONSTRUCTION PLANT, STRUCTURAL STABILITY

The appointed TWC shall carry out the duties listed below:
 Co-ordinate all temporary works (TW) activities;
 Ensure a TW Control Register is established and maintained;
 Ensure that an adequate TW Design Brief is prepared with consultation within the project team;
 Ensure that any other temporary works in the vicinity are referenced in the TW Design Brief;
 Ensure that the TW Design Brief is issued to the designer for the TW design to be carried out;
 Ensure that appropriate TW Design Check categories are assigned;
 Ensure that an independent TW Design Check is carried out;
 Ensure that a completed copy of the Design & Check Certificate or similar is available;
 Ensure that information on the certified TW design is made available to other interested parties;
 Register or record the drawings, calculations and other relevant documents relating to the final design;
 Ensure that the relevant client and/or third-party approvals have been received;
 Ensure that on-site supervision receive TW design details, residual risks, & any associated limitations;
 Ensure that a specific method statement, which details a Safe System of Work (SSoW), is prepared;
 Ensure that proposed changes in materials or construction are checked against the original design;
 Ensure that checks, inspections and tests are made at appropriate stages;
 Advise the TW designer of any changes or modifications to the scheme;
 Ensure that ground conditions, general site conditions, loadings etc. are as stated on the design brief
or the TW design assumptions (and remain so during use);
 Where testing is required, ensure that test records and certificates are produced and retained;
 Ensure a Permit To Load is issued by the PC’s TWC after a final check, which is satisfactory;
 Ensure that during use of the temporary works all appropriate maintenance is carried out;
 Ensure a Permit to Unload is issued by the PC’s TWC; and
 Ensure that a documented SSoW is in place and implemented for the dismantling of any TW.
The Designated Individual (DI) making the appointment must be satisfied that the proposed TWC meets the
requirements of BS 5975:2019, and has the necessary experience, training and qualifications. The
minimum training requirements for a TWC are shown on Page 2 of this form.

Acceptance of Appointment:
The proposed TWC must be satisfied that they are competent to perform their duties, and have the
necessary time and resources to do so. If they are unable to satisfy themselves as to these aspects, they
must bring this to the attention of the DI. They must refuse the appointment until they are satisfied as to
these issues, without fear of punitive action being taken against them.
