SUBJECT : INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROJECT

ENTITLED: “SUPPORTING ENGLISH TEACHING AND
LEARNING THROUGH ONLINE AND OFFLINE
DELIVERY METHODS: A MICRO-COURSE AND VIDEO
SERIES FOR EDUCATORS MANAGING INTERRUPTED
FACE-TO-FACE INSTRUCTION IN THE PHILIPPINES”

DATE : September 9, 2020

To assist English language teachers and instructional leaders in preparing to

transition to various distance learning delivery modalities, the US Embassy in the
Philippines has forged partnership with the Department of Education to implement
the project entitled “Supporting English Teaching and Learning Through Online
and Offline Delivery Methods: A Micro-Course and Video Series for Educators
Managing Interrupted Face-to-Face Instruction in the Philippines.”

Specifically, this project aims for the participants to:

A. Articulate on the pedagogy of remote instruction via TV and radio-based

learning;
B. Demonstrate understanding of module development for independent
learning;
C. Develop and implement digital teaching strategies and tasks in English to
sustain learners’ motivation and engagement; and
D. Be oriented on practical ways for assisting learners and parents in creating
safe and productive spaces for remote learning.

To attain the objectives, three English Language (EL) Specialists of the US Embassy
in the Philippines will conduct a six-part webinar series from September 14
to October 2, 2020 via Zoom which will also be live streamed on Facebook.

The webinar series are aligned with the Professional Development requirements of
NEAP and participants who will complete them will be provided with PD credit

 units based on DepEd Order No. 1 s. 2020 or the “Guidance on Program Evaluation
and Recognition.”
Target participants for this activity are select English language teachers and
instructional leaders from each division and region. They shall receive a digital
Certificate of Participation upon completion of the six-week webinar series and
submission of requirements.

 the Criteria for the Selection of Participants, and Annex C contains the Program of
Activities.

The online registration link, Zoom meeting link, ID, and password for the webinar
series will be sent to the identified participants thru email on or before September
13, 2020. Further, participants will also be informed thru email on the Facebook
Group which they will have to join as part of the activity requirements. The
Facebook Group shall contain professional development resources, live streams,
and video recordings of the webinar sessions.

Participants are advised to use their laptop or smartphone and must have access to
strong internet connection in attending to the webinar sessions.

CRITERIA FOR THE SELECTION OF PARTICIPANTS

First Cluster: English Teachers’ Cluster

One teacher per key stage per division in each region will be selected. Below are
the specific criteria for selecting teacher participants:

• It is important that they are currently assigned to teach English.

• High consideration for the selection of teacher-participants:

Teachers who are tapped to write and deliver TV/Radio-based lessons
and those who have the potential to become scriptwriters and
broadcasters of DepEd lessons.

Second Cluster: Instructional Leaders’ Cluster

The instructional leaders must be English major/have previous English

language teaching experience. Below are the specific criteria for selecting
instructional leader participants:

• 1 Education Program Supervisor in English in each region;

• 1 Education Program Supervisor in English in each division;
• 1 Learning Action Cell (LAC) Facilitator per division who is currently an
elementary or high school English/Reading Teacher/Master Teacher
or Head Teacher; and
• 1 School Principal (in elementary or high school) per division who is
previously an English/Reading Teacher.
