Cebu City – Most people are apprehensive to

consume mung beans because of its common notion
that it will contribute to arthritic attack. What’s the real
story?

Are Mung Beans prohibited?

Avoidance of food rich in purine is advised since our

body readily converts purine into uric acid. Examples
of this are small fishes (dili, sardines, anchovies),
internal organs of animal from pork and beef such as
liver and food and drinks containing high fructose corn
syrup. Differing to what the common notion that mung
bean is not allowed is rather not true. In fact, Mung
beans, rice, pastas, and coffee are encouraged to
gout-sufferers since yet it is better to decrease the
consumption of red meat (pork & beef).

What’s in it for Purine and Uric Acid?

Uric acid levels might increase because of consuming

foods high in purine or producing purine normally in
one’s body. A buildup of uric acid crystals in soft
tissues and joints because of too much uric acid can
result in painful gout symptoms. Dietary management
focuses on achieving in lowering the level of uric acid

consumption of foods high in purine. Below is the list
