4.0 HANDLING AND STORAGE

On delivery to Site, all lift materials shall be stored indoors near the lift lobby, in a clean, dry and ventilated place. We
shall request for small area to erect our store at site, in order for us to arrange our installation material and other
small parts.

5.0 WORK METHODOLOGY

Upon delivery and unloading, a visual inspection on the packages for damages will be carried out. Work may then
begin. Proper scaffolding and safety precaution is to be adopted as per OSHA requirement.

5.1 PLANNING OF WORK- HANDLING OF LIFT SHAFTS AND LIFT MACHINE ROOMS

a) Lift installation shall be scheduled in accordance with the Master Work Program approved by the
Employer’s representative.

b) Scaffolding to be erected in the lift shaft (s).

c) Separator beams shall be installed (if required).

d) Protections shall be provided to prevent seepage of water into lift shaft (s).

e) To remove all formworks, timbers, or steel bars sticking out along the internal shaft walls.

f) To clear all debris, water and unwanted material in the lift pit (s).

g) Curbs shall be provided at every lift entrance to prevent water from flowing into the lift shaft (s) (if
required).

h) Temporary power supply for lightings, power hand tools and light power machinery shall be
provided at every floor.

i) Lift door opening, lift shaft entrance and cut-off holes in LMR shall be protected at all time during
construction.

j) The inspection check list (KONE), will be utilized to check the structure and handover lift shaft to our
installation works.

k) A covered storage area at site will be allocated to lift equipment upon the delivery of equipment. All
items shall be stacked up properly and in safest possible way during storage to keep away from rain
and ground dirt and electronic parts shall be protected from rain, dust and dirt before installation.

Preparatory works for lift installation are as follows:

 To remove all formworks and I-beam/ rebar in the lift machine room area.
 To clear all debris and unwanted material out of the lift machine room(s).
 To ensure that there is no water seepage into the lift machine room (s)
 Machine room shall be at least completed with screeded floor and plastered walls.
 Machine room shall be provided with lockable door (at least temporary) door to be provided if
permanent one is not available.
 Concrete plinths shall be constructed in accordance to KONE requirements.

5.2 Erection of Scaffolding – Sequence 1

Before erection of scaffold in the lift shaft (s), the position shall be coordinated to avoid obstruction to the
lift equipment to be installed in the lift shaft (s).

5.3 Plumbing of Lift Shaft (s) – Sequence 2

A horizontal reference line (i.e. finish wall level and/or grid lines) parallel to the landing doorframes at the
entire landing floor lobby will be set by surveyor at the lowest floor. This line is to determine position of the
lift (s) i.e. with this as a reference, two plumb lines for the car sill, two plumb lines for the car guide rails
and two others for counterweight rails will be dropped from the top of the shaft to the lift pit. The objective
is to obtain the best possible position to avoid major rectification of shaft walls and to meet the finishing
layout at the lift lobby area (s).

5.4 Install Guide Rail Brackets – Sequence 3

The first guide rail bracket will be installed 1.25 meters from the pit floor, subsequent guide rails brackets
are installed at approximately 2.0 to 2.5 meters interval until all the way up to the ceiling of the lift shaft.
M16 holes are drilled along the wall for insertion of anchor bolts for the mounting of guide rail brackets.
Rail brackets are then fixed onto these. Where separator beams are required, these have to be installed
before rail brackets can be welded onto.

5.5 Install and Align Guide Rails – Sequence 4

Guide rails are hoisted from the lobby into the lift shaft and are fastened to the brackets using clips
commencing from the lift pit. The installation of rail and fastening will continues all the way up to the lift
shaft and will be aligned vertically and laterally. The clips are fastened tight after checking using the
plumb line and the alignment gauge. The allowable tolerance of guide rail alignment is within +/- 1.0mm.

5.6 Install Landing Door Frames – Sequence 5

The landing doorframe will be installed at position by the Main Contractor’s setting. Before
commencement of doorframe installation, the finished floor level and the finished wall level will be
marked at the lift lobby area.

5.7 Install Shaft Wirings - Sequence 6

Electrical wiring will be installed along the shaft wall and in the lift motor-room. Power cables will run in
trunking separate from control cables. Main Contractor shall note that all lift control / power wirings and
CCTV control (if applicable) / power wirings shall be provided and installed during construction.

5.8 Grouting of Landing Door Frames – Sequence 7

All gaps between frames, walls and indicator/button boxes will to be sealed with lightweight cement. All
these are to be completed in shortest possible time to avoid interrupting of lift installation schedule.

5.9 Install Landing Door Panels – Sequence 8

KONE will proceed with door panel installation after the completion of doorframe installation. The gap
between the landing door and frame shall be between 5 to 8 mm.

5.10 Assembly of Car, Counter-Weight Frame, etc. – Sequence 9

Assembly of lift car will be carried out at the lowest landing floor. Counter-weight frames and blocks will
be assembled at the highest possible level of lift shaft (s).

5.11 Roping And Shaft Equipment – Sequence 10

Installation of hoisting ropes shall commence as soon as the assembly of car and counter-weight are
completed. Lift Contractor will verify if installation is in accordance to checklist 50% (Attachment 2) will be
utilized to check

5.12 Lift Interior Finishes – Sequence 11

At this time, the scaffolding in the hoist way (s) should be dismantled. The lift car (s) should then be
suspended via hoisting ropes and is able to move manually by means of winding the hoisting motor in the
lift machine room. The interior finishes in the lift car shall commence before the testing and
commissioning of the lift (s).

5.13 Quality Inspection Prior to Lift Testing – Sequence 12

Prior to testing of lifts, the KONE supervisor or PIC shall check the installation and ensure that the lift (s)
is ready or fit for testing.

5.14 Testing of Lift With Maintenance Speed – Sequence 13

All safety devices, lift car and lift pits are checked to ensure that they are operational. In the preliminary
stage the lift is tested with maintenance speed of approximately 0.6 m/s. The lift is moved along the lift
shaft, under manual operation. This is carried out at the car top by KONE technician. Checks are made to
ensure that there is no obstruction throughout the travel of the lift in the hoist way. Approximate load
balancing is also carried out to balance the weight between, the car and counter-weight.

5.15 Cleaning of Lift Shaft and Guide Rails – Sequence 14

Cleaning of lift shaft (s) and guide rails shall then be carried out immediately once the lift (s) is able to
travel up and down of the hoist way (s).

5.16 Mechanical Adjustment and Testing of High speed – Sequence 15

All mechanism such as landing doors, car door and all other lift shaft mechanical devices are adjusted.
Speed profile parameters are set in preparation of high speed (contract speed). Load measurement is set
to the contract load of the lift (s). The necessary requirement for evacuation of lift (s) is incorporated.

Please note that before commencement of Sequence 16, EPO (emergency power operation) sensing
cables and EFO (Emergency Fire Operation) sensing cables must be installed prior to sequence 16.

5.17 JKKP Inspection – Sequence 16

Upon the acceptance of tests and inspections to comply with JKKP requirement, KONE Project Engineer /
JKKP Competent Person (CP) will make arrangement for JKKP inspection once the lifts are completely
tested. Therefore the inspection schedule is confirmed by JKKP (Local Authorities), the Project
