Question 1

Marked out of 1

Flag question

A few students dominate the class, decreasing the

opportunities
for others to participate on an equal level.

What would you do?

Please enter your answer and click 'Next'. At the end of

the Quiz you will be able to submit all your answers at
once.

I wouldn’t show any favoritism towards those students. On

the contrary, I will try to give each student equal chance
to
participate. I would kindly ask them not to interrupt
their
classmates and respect them

You could also think about grouping the more dominant

students
together and the more passive students together, so
that at least
only ONE of the dominant students is giving
feedback. Generally,
pair and group work enables students to
participate even if they
are not the ones shouting out the
answers. Alternatively you can
also give your students
‘tokens’. Every time they speak they have
to turn one in.
When they run out they can´t speak anymore.

Question 2

Flag question

The entire class stares blankly at the teacher and says

nothing
despite repeated attempts to elicit an active
learning behavior
from them.

What would you do?

I will try a warm-up activity if I feel the class is not

ready to
speak on the topic. I think using some games is a
good way
of making people feel comfortable. As they
start with the
things they already know they will easily adapt to
the new
things.
You can look at how you are teaching and whether it's
working in
the class.  If you feel that that they are not
enjoying,
understanding the class, you should change the
lesson plan to
make it work. You can also consider stopping
the activity
altogether. Do something fun that gets the
students moving and
re-animated. It could be “that time of
the day” when students are
half-asleep, or it could be that
they just don’t understand what
you want from them. After
reanimating the class, go back to what
you were doing, and
try to explain in a different way. If you
still get no response,
scrap the activity altogether – it is
obviously beyond them!

Question 3

Complete

Marked out of 1

Flag question

In the lesson plan, students are required to interview each

other. A man refuses to participate with a woman.
What would you do?
First, I will try to regroup students. If there aren’t any other
options f or the man to group with other men I will do the
interview with him

Firstly you would have to look at the class and see if

everybody
was comfortable working with each other taking
into account race,
religion and personality. You have to get to
know your students
and remind them that this is an
educational environment where it
is clear of “personal
issues”.
