Public relations students from the Faculty of Communication and Media studies, Universiti

Teknologi MARA, Cawangan Shah Alam (UiTMCSA) organised an event about social media,
with the title Social Media Unplugged virtually on the 2nd July 2022. The Media Genics team
from class MC242S2C organised this inspiring event in collaboration with students from SMK
Taman Melawati. This event focused on how to educate the students on using social media with
ethics. The virtual event commenced with an uplifting speech from the teacher of SMK Taman
Melawati as a representative of the school followed by Miss Shaza Marina, our advisor of the
Social Media Unplugged programme who gave a welcoming speech to the students.

On the morning of 2 July 2022, Media Genic from class MC242S2C held an event virtually as it
is more convenient for the students because everyone is able to access the google meet link at
any time and anywhere. This event was held to bring awareness about social media ethics and
the right netiquettes for all the students. The event focused on how to be a good social media
user.

Both the cheerful and lovely moderators, Syabiela and Razin did a great job of maintaining a
positive vibe throughout the virtual event, which makes the students enjoy themselves until the
end. The first activity is a Talk session that is by our guest speaker Encik Shah Rizal. He shared
his knowledge about netiquettes as well as the legal implications if we do not take it seriously.
Thus, we aim to help the target audience to play their role in becoming good social media users
with the right understanding of social media ethics.

Other than that, Media Genic also held a few games such as word strike, guess the word and
emoji scanner and also quizzis. Indirectly, the game will make the audience aware of what is
right and wrong as we focus on media ethics itself. Lastly, we hope that our event will give many
benefits and knowledge to the audience about social media not only for them but also for society.

The virtual event ended with a question-and-answer and sharing session by the two moderators,
Ms Syabiela and Mr Razin from Media Genic. The students shared their curiosity about what
Mass Communication is and without hesitation shared their thoughts about it. The Media Genic
team has prepared interesting gifts for the students who managed to answer and win the games
earlier.

Before everyone parted their ways, we managed to cherish these moments through a photograph
session. Social Media Unplugged was a success because all the students are very interactive and
engaged in every activity that we held. It has also established educational and social connections
between the students and the Media Genic team.
