Endogenetic Movements
Answer in brief
1. Given reasons why Earthquakes occur.
Ans. 1. Due to the movements occurring in the interior of the earth,
tremendous tension is created in the earth’s crust.
2. When the tension goes beyond limit, the energy released in the
form of waves.
3. This results in trembling of the earth’s surface due to which
Earthquake occurs.
4. The plates move and collide over each other
5. Plates slides one below the other
6.Fractures are formed in rock layers due to tension in the interior
7. Occurring of volcanic eruptions also caused Earthquake sometimes
2.
Primary waves Secondary waves
1.The seismic waves that reach The seismic waves that reach the
the earth first, immediately after Earth after the primary waves are
the energy is released in the called secondary seismic waves
interior are called Primary
seismic waves.
2.These waves can travel through They can travel through only
all Three mediums namely, solid, solid medium
liquid, gaseous
3.The particles lying in the way The particles lying in the way of
of primary waves move to and secondary waves move up and
fro in the direction of energy down into the direction of energy
transfer. travel.
4.Comparing to the Secondary Compared to primary waves, the
waves, the primary waves are S waves are more destructive
less destructive.
3.
Earthquakes Volcanoes
Earthquakes occurs due to Volcanoes occur when hot solid
tremendous tension created in liquid and gaseous material are
the crust of the earth. thrown out from the mantle on
the earth’s surface
During Earthquakes energy is During a volcanic eruption,
released in the form of waves molten magma is thrown out on
resulting in trembling of earth surface of the earth
surface
High energy is released in the Lava is released when the molten
form of waves in the interior of magma comes out on the surface
earth
Earthquakes generate seismic Based on type of eruption
waves which are divided into volcanoes are divided as Central
Primary, Secondary and Surface Vent / Conical volcano and
waves fissure volcano
Earthquakes occur due to Volcanoes occur due to eruption
movement and collision of the from the mantle of the earth and
plates due to which Earthquakes can be disastrous
may lead to disaster
Q1.GIVE REASONS:
1.There is much difference in the formation of the Meghalaya
Plateau and the Deccan Plateau.
Ans.1.The Meghalaya plateau of India is formed out of a block
mountain whereas the Deccan Plateau is formed out of volcanic
mountains.
2. Block mountains of Meghalaya are formed due to fractures in the
rocks, whereas volcanic mountains of the Deccan Plateau due to
eruption of molten materials.
3.The Meghalaya Plateau is a result of the faulting process creating a
tension on layers of rock due to the horizontal waves.
4.Deccan Plateau is formed due to sudden endogenetic movement
where volcanic plateaus are formed.
5.Block mountains are formed due to the internal movements where
horizontal waves move towards each other in the hard rocks to form
faults due to compression.
6.Whereas Deccan plateau is formed due to eruption where magma
comes out from the cracks and fissures.
