Position: Intern, Learning and Development in PwC, Vietnam
Preparing phase:
- BATNA: If the offered salary does not align with my expectations, I will actively
explore other job opportunities by applying to similar positions or continuing the job in
my current company.
- Target: 6 million VND for the intern position.
- Starting point and resistance points: Based on data from Glassdoor, the average
salary for an intern position is 4 million VND. However, through insights from an
acquaintance who used to work at the company, it has been indicated that salaries
can reach up to 6 million VND. Meanwhile, my current salary is 8 million VND.
Consequently, my preferred objective ranges from 4 to 9 million VND, securing an
acceptable wage of 6 million VND.
- Other party's goal, interests, resistance points, and alternatives: PwC seeks
highly qualified and willing-to-learn interns. Considering the intense competition
associated with this esteemed organization and the strong demand from entry-level
professionals, it may prove challenging to negotiate for a higher salary.
- Nevertheless, given my previous experience in a similar position and comprehensive
understanding of the role's responsibilities, it is possible to attain 10-25% higher than
the average rate.
Strategy: Interest-focused negotiations
Tactics:
- Conduct thorough salary research: While I have obtained some salary information
from acquaintances, I recognize the importance of verifying the current salary range
for my target position. Additionally, this data may not precisely match the offered
position. Therefore, I need more accurate and up-to-date information.
- Prepare thoughtful questions to leave a positive impression on the Hiring Manager
and serve as a foundation for salary negotiations. For instance, what qualities and
skills are you looking for in an intern position?
- Reveal my current salary: Considering my prior experience in a similar role at a
smaller company, my salary was relatively high (8 million VND per month). Then,
sharing this information during negotiations would support my quest for a higher
wage.
- Practice my communication skills to exude confidence while emphasizing my
abilities and strong motivation to contribute to a prominent organization like PwC.
