STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

Performance Task
Set A
Objective:

The class will serve as researchers through the analysis of data that are usually
gathered and interpreted in research. The task will also be allowing the class to utilize
the use of technology to better interpret the data gathered. Using the concepts learned
in Hypothesis Testing, they should be able to arrive at conclusions on a particular area
assigned to them.

Problem:

Assume that you are a student researcher tasked by the school to determine the
average allowance of senior high students. They asked you to do a survey asking the
students how much allowance they have for a month. According to the Philippine Star,
a Filipino student receives 3000 pesos per month. Is there any reason to believe that
the average allowance of the XUSHS students is different from 3000 pesos? Prepare a
presentation to the administration on this issue by doing the following:

Instruction:

1. You are to pick a sample of at least 30 students (from one or several classes, if
necessary, for the z-test). Out of these 30, you can get the first 20 students for
the t-test.
2. Determine the sample mean and sample standard deviation.
3. Use 0.05 as the level of significance.
4. Use 2 decimal places for the final answers.
5. Each group will submit a portfolio. This task will be a simulation of a research
paper focusing on statistical interpretation.

Requirements:

1. Table of Contents
2. Introduction of the context of the research
3. Data Table
4. Excel Screenshot of the Summary of Data
