Rest is a gift that we too easily tend to push aside. But life without rest is not
sustainable. Rest refreshes our bodies, giving us the energy we need to honour God

Group (Team) – Peer Evaluation System

Laboratory Activities are to be performed in groups, with maximum number of members of
three people. This system was placed with response to the inability of some students to perform the
laboratory modular activities due to the limited availability of their technological resources. This group
system also hopes to promote the creation of healthy relationships and cooperation.
Groups (Teams) are permanent for all AE 314 Laboratory activities all throughout the 1 st
Semester Academic Year 2020 – 2021, so I highly suggest that you consider grouping with people
who can contribute in the accomplishment of your Laboratory Activities. Reminder that these
contributions do not only pertain to the workload distribution. Remember that the original goal of this
group system is to offer and provide mutual support amongst you and your group members. Each
group must have a team leader to represent their team if necessary.

AERONAUTICAL LABORATORY I
Module 01: Wind Tunnel Familiarization

Introduction
An Aeronautical Laboratory is a facility supposed to focus primarily on aeronautical research.
Aeronautical Laboratories are fundamental in the design and production of aircraft and its parts. One
of the functions of an aeronautical laboratory is to test materials by subjecting them to varying
conditions depending on the material’s purpose or the subject of research the staff of the laboratory is
trying to accomplish.
Some Laboratories are of higher capabilities more than others. An example of this High-
Performance Laboratories are those used for simulating supersonic and hypersonic flows, although its
high performance has its downsides as well. Supersonic and Hypersonic laboratories need special
equipment and conditions to conduct their operation, requiring a substantial amount of funds to build,
operate and maintain. In some hypersonic wind tunnel facilities, nitrogen or helium has been used as
the working fluid.

Laboratory Activity 01: Aeronautical Laboratory Equipment Familiarization

Philippine State College of Aeronautics has a basic setup of an Aeronautical Laboratory. The
objective of this activity is to enable students to identify aeronautical laboratory equipment and their
functions. Listed below are the Equipment and Materials present in our Aeronautical Laboratory.

Equipment and Materials:

1. Wind Tunnel
The Wind tunnel existing in the Aeronautical Laboratory in Philippine State College of
Aeronautics is a subsonic open-circuit wind tunnel. Model: TQ AF100 Subsonic Wind tunnel.
Manual: https://www.infowerk.systems/data.cfm?vpath=ma-wartbare-inhalte/ma-
downloads/factsheets-teaching-equipment/af100_1015pdf
2. U-tube Manometer
3. Aircraft Models. Ranging from flat plates, miniature planes, and helicopters.
4. Wing models
a. Wing models with pressure ports
b. Wing models with end plates

Laboratory activity and procedure:

Conduct a research on the following equipment above for the purpose of:
1. Identifying each equipment/material and their specific function.
2. Improvements in our Aeronautical Laboratory
Remember to include a copy of the Honesty clause statement in the document and write a
journal about your individual contribution.

1. This Research must be accomplished by groups (maximum of 3 members each). Please avoid
copying the work of other groups, anyone who does so shall be penalized of repeating this
activity;
2. (At least) 6 double spaced typewritten pages. Excluding the title and table of reference

3. Should include four sections

A. Introduction
B. Summary of the articles

C. Opinion or reaction to the articles

 You may decide to do a combination of any of the following:
i. Compare the works to other related articles.

ii. Answer the conundrum posed in this activity

iii. You may expand on the points of the article or cover other domains
not covered in the said article; or

iv. You may argue against the works questioning its assumptions.
D. Conclusion
4. Students must use in-text citations as well as a bibliography section to cite every Source that is
used in this paper.
5. Correct Grammar, syntax, usage, spelling, and punctuation are absolutely required.

Presentation of data: (example)

“Aside from the well-known aeronautical laboratory equipment called the wind tunnel, there

are a few more which can be beneficial to have in the laboratory. Wind tunnels provides a region of

controlled airflow into which models can be inserted for observation. Centrifugal blower test rig

consists of centrifugal blower driven by a variable speed electric motor which is used to discharge high

volumes of air at low pressure. Beam test setups are bench mounted beam apparatus to enable students

to investigate the deflections and reactions in simply supported and cantilever beams. Propeller test rig

is used to investigate propeller performance parameters.”

Honesty Clause
Here is a copy of the Honesty Clause which you will attach to every submission you will carry
out in this module.

“As members of the Academic Community, students are expected to recognize and uphold standards
of intellectual and academic integrity. Philippine State College of Aeronautics assumes, as a basic
and minimum standard of conduct in academic matters, that students should be honest and that they
submit for credit only the products of their own efforts.”
