we learned yesterday? Yesterday ma’am we talked
about the history of the
Philippines.

So class, can someone give a summary
about the history of the Philippines? The Philippines are named
after King Philip II year
1527-1598 of Spain. The
country was discovered by
the Portuguese navigator
Ferdinand Magellan in 1521
while in Spanish service.
Later tension arose between
Portugal and Spain and in
1542 Spain re-claimed the
islands for themselves,
naming them after its then
king.

So how many presidents does the


Republic of the Philippines have?
Anyone? 16 ma’am.

2. Comparison and
Abstraction The President is the head of the state
and head of the government of the
Philippines. The President leads the
executive branch of the Philippines
government and is the commander in
chief of the Armed Forces of the
Philippines.

We Filipinos refer to our President as


Pangulo or Presidente and the President
serves for one, fixed six year term
without possibility of reelection.

Now, the first President of the


Philippines was? Emilio Aguinaldo

Very good! He was the first president


of the first republic called? Malolos Republic

Now let’s move on to the


Commonwealth of the Philippines
under the American Era.

Who is the first President of the


Commonwealth? Manuel Luis Quezon

And who is Manuel Luiz Quezon? He is the First President of


the Commonwealth.

And he was a Filipino statesman,


leader of the independence movement,
and first president of the Philippine
Commonwealth established under
United States tutelage in 1935.
And now let’s move on to the next
President. Sergio Osmena was the
second President of the
Commonwealth.

Great!. He was also a Filipino


statesman, founder of the Nationalist
Party (Partido Nacionalista) and
President of the Philippines from 1944
to 1946.

Commonwealth era was put to


an end when Japanese came to the
Philippines to colonize it. It was the
replaced by the Japanese Government or
called Puppet Government and the only
president in this era was? Jose Laurel became the
President of the Japanese
Sponsored Republic during
the Japanese occupation of
World War II.

Okay, what type of Government does


the Philippines had in the time of Japanese
Occupation. Sponsored Republic ma’am.

Yes. And when the Japanese lost


against the American Forces they left
the Philippines and it then gave birth to
a new republic, What republic is it? 3rd Philippine Republic

And who was the President of the 3rd


Republic? Manuel Acuna Roxas was the
1st President of the of the 3rd
Republic and the last
President of the
Commonwealth. He was also
the Political leader and the 1st
President of the
independence Republic of the
Philippines.

And then? Elpidio Quirino was the 2nd


President of the 3rd Republic
of the Philippines a Political
leader and the 2nd President
of the Independence
Republic of the Philippines.

Then we had Ramon Magsaysay, the


3rd President of the 3rd Republic. He
was? Best known for successfully
defeating the communist led
Hukbalahap (Huk)
Movement, Idol of the
masses, champion of
democracy and freedom
fighter.

He was called Idol of the masses


because according to the people he was
down to earth, he ate with his bare hands
and plants crops with the people.

Now who was the next president? Carlos P. Garcia, 4th


President of the 3rd Republic
of the Philippines. He was
famous for his austerity
program and
policy. He maintained the
strong tradition ties with the
United States and sought
closer relation with non
communist Asian countries.

He was also known for Pilipino Muna


program w/c made the local harvest
known and benefitted both the consumers
and our farmers or producers.

Who’s the next one? Diosdado Macapagal the 5th


President was a poet,
politician, lawyer, diplomat,
statesman, economist and
intellectual. He was born to
poverty but rose due to
diligence and brilliance.

And who was the next president and


the first president of the fourth republic
also known as Bagong Lipunan? Ferdinand Marcos was
the 6th and the last President
of the 3rd Republic of the
Philippines and the 1st
president of the 4th Republic
of the Philippines. He was
a Philippine lawyer, a
politician who ruled by
martial law.

Why was he the last president of the 3rd


Republic of the Philippines and the 1st
President of the 4th Republic? Because he made the 4th
Republic w/c is known as the
Bagong Lipunan under
the new constitution.

For how many years did he ruled the


Philippines? 21 years.

He was ousted by the movement


called? EDSA people power.

And the he was replaced by whom? By Corazon Aquino who


became the 1st President of
the 5th Republic of the
Philippines and the first
woman President of the
Philippines.

And who was the next president? Fidel V. Ramos was the 2nd
President of the 5th Republic.

What was his Centerpiece Program? Philippines 2000.

Now let’s move to the next President? Joseph Estrada was the 3rd
president of the 5th Republic.
He was a Filipino film actor
and director, later became a
politician.

Why was he impeached? Because of Jueteng ma’am.

Okay and because of that he was


replaced by his Vice President. Who
was the Vice President? Gloria Macapagal Arroyo
became the 2nd woman who
became the president of
the Philippines and is the
daughter of the late Diosdado
Macapagal.

And after Arroyo, who became the next


President? Benigno Aquino III was the
15th President of the Republic
of the Philippines. He is the
son of the late
Corazon Aquino and
Benigno Aquino II.

And who is our present President? Our present President is


Rodrigo Duterte. He is now
the 16th President of
the Republic and will be
ending his term by year 2021.
