Information Index- All About The Waste
Activity: Picture Analysis Waste has been a major environmental issue everywhere
since the industrial revolution. Besides the waste we create at
home, school and other public places, there are also those
from hospitals, industries, farms and other sources. Humans
rely so much on material things that end up almost as waste

(Continuation) Annex 2
Everyone creates waste, although some people produce very little waste
because they are environmentally conscious. Other countries do a very
good job in creating and managing their waste. Others are pretty horrible
and have created huge environmental problems that severely affect their
biodiversity.
All over the world, communities handle their waste or trash differently.
Some common methods of managing their waste include landfilling,
recycling and composting. Other communities strongly embark on waste
reduction and litter prevention/control aimed at reducing the production of
waste. Some communities also engage in waste-to-energy plants and
hazardous waste disposal programs.
On the other hand, the Philippines generates about 10,000 million tons of
solid waste per year and only 12 percent of the waste is recycled and re-
used. The single most dominant issue for waste management is the
inadequacy of disposal facilities. Presently, open dumping is still the most
common waste disposal method as controlled dumpsites and sanitary
landfills are very limited. Hence, all Filipinos are encouraged to participate
in the conservation of our environment through the consistent application of
proper waste disposal.
Here are some additional information:
Did you know?
For the year 2014, The Philippines has been listed the third
highest producer of plastic wastes thrown into the ocean after
China and Indonesia.

Did you know?

Residents of Metro Manila generate so much garbage that they
are responsible for one-fourth of the country’s daily output of solid
waste, according to the Department of Environment and Natural
Resources (DENR).
