PUBLISHER

WHAT IS THE PUBLISHER?


 Microsoft Publisher is a desktop publishing program designed by
Microsoft that allows users to create a variety of projects, such as
journals, calendars, greeting cards, newsletters and booklets. It is
aimed at the home user rather than the professional.

HISTORY OF PUBLISHER
 Microsoft released the first version of Publisher in 1991. Adobe's
Page maker came out in 1985, securing its position as a leader in the
field long before Publisher.

FEATURES OF PUBLISHER
 Microsoft Publisher is a powerful desktop publishing tool that allows
users to create projects from scratch or from templates. It includes
text editing, design, graphic effects, and layout features, but XML
storyboard editing is not supported.

PARTS OF PUBLISHER
TITLE BAR
 The Title Bar displays the document's name. If the document is
unnamed, the name displayed in the title bar will be Publication X
where X is a sequential number.

RULERS
 Two rulers can be set to measure in inches, centimeters, pica's, or
points, and can be displayed or hidden. A pica is equal to 12 points,
1/6 of an inch.

WORK AREA
 The work area is the background surrounding the Publisher
document, used to temporarily place text and graphic elements. Text
and graphics on the work area will not print.

GUIDES
 The blue dotted lines represent the page margins. Generally, all the
text and graphics are placed within the page margins.
BOUNDARIES
 The page boundaries represent the edges of the paper. Any items
outside or overlapping the page boundaries will not print.

TASK PANE
 The task pane provides quick access to various functions, such as
Help, Clip Art, Find and Replace, Graphics Manager, Publication
Designs, Styles and Formatting.

OBJECT BAR
 Publisher provides several tools that are used to accomplish various
tasks.

SCROLL BARS
 Publisher has scroll bars to help move to various points on the
current page, but they are not used to move between pages.

STANDARD TOOL BAR


 The Standard Toolbar contains buttons for common functions in
Publisher and throughout Microsoft Office. This toolbar is similar in
most Office 2003 programs.

FORMATTING TOOL BAR


 The Formatting Toolbar is a toolbar in Microsoft Office and Publisher
that provides text formatting options.

PAGE ICONS
 The Page Icons indicate the number of pages and which page is
currently selected, and are used to navigate between the pages of
the publication.

 MS Word is a word processor developed by Microsoft that allows
users to format and edit files and documents in the best way. It is
used to create professional-quality documents, letters, and reports.

WHY IS MICROSOFT WORD IMPORTANT?


 Microsoft Word is a text editor that can be used to create resumes,
reports, letters, authors' books, and researchers' thesis. It can also be
used as a text editor.

WORKSPACE IN MS WORD?
 The Workspace in Microsoft Word 2013 is the layout of commands
available to the user, including the Quick Access Toolbar, Ribbon,
Windows Close, Minimize/Maximize and Help buttons.

ZOOM CONTROL
 The Zoom control in Microsoft Word allows users to adjust the size
of their document on the screen, making it easier to read, edit, or
review.

STATUS BAR
 A status bar is a horizontal window at the bottom of a parent
window that displays various kinds of status information. It can be
divided into parts to display more than one type of information.

SCROLL BARS
 Scroll bars should be included in any window with a client area that
extends beyond the window's borders.
 Each document has two scroll bars:
 one vertically down the right side of the document, and
 one horizontally across the bottom of the window.
 A horizontal scroll bar enables the user to scroll the content to the
left or right, while a vertical scroll bar enables the user to scroll the
content up or down.
FILE TAB
 The File tab in Microsoft Word is a hub for managing documents,
providing access to commands, recent documents, file search, add-in
and account management, and help and support.

VERTICAL RULER
 The vertical ruler in Microsoft Word is essential for creating a
professional and easy-to-read document by setting margins, tabs,
indent text, and aligning objects.

MINIMIZE
 Minimizing a document window in Microsoft Word turns it into an
icon on the taskbar, allowing users to manage multiple windows and
switch between them easily.

MAXIMIZE
 Maximize is the action of enlarging a Word document to fill the
entire screen, hiding other open windows and giving a larger view.

DOCUMENT NAME
 The document name in Microsoft Word is the name of the file that
holds a user's document, which can be customized and defined in
document properties.

TEXT BOX
 A text box is a graphical element that you can insert into a Word
document to contain text. It can be moved, resized, and formatted
like any other object.

SHAPES
 AutoShapes are drawn pictures created from lines, curves,
rectangles, and other objects, similar to a placeholder.

HISTORY OF MS WORD
 Microsoft Word is a popular word processing program developed
and distributed by Microsoft Corporation. It was first released in
1983 as Multi-Tool Word for MS-DOS and in 1985 for the Apple
Macintosh with a graphical user interface. It has gone through
several versions with new features and improvements, such as
support for tables, spell checking, grammar checking, multimedia
embedding, web page creation, track changes, collaboration tools,
Ribbon interface, real-time co-authoring, inking tools, and more.
