What is Break Dancing?

Break Dancing is an energetic style of dance, typically to hip-hop music. It is characterized by


stylized footwork and acrobatic or athletic movements. Break dancing is typically set to hip-
hop, funk, and breakbeat music.

Where break dancing originated?


It originated among African American and Latino people in New York City during the 1970s.
Gangs used break dancing as a way to battle of the territory without the active violence.

What is the benefits of break dancing?


-It gives a full body workout.
-it enhances our breathing.
-improves our flexibility
-improves our muscular strength and endurance.

•Reduces stress

What are the possible injuries we can get when break


dancing?

Common injuries reported are sprains; strains; tendinitis; bursitis; growth plate injuries;
fractures of the clavicle, radius, and ulna; stress fractures of the femur, calcaneus, and vertebra;
and spinal cord injuries. Injuries to the wrist seem to be the most common due to power moves
such as flairs and windmills.
Break dancing is an athletic style of street dance. It mainly consist of 4 kinds of
movements.
•TOPROCK

•FOOTWORK
•FREEZES
•POWER MOVES

•TOP ROCK- is the major elements of breaking.


-It generally refers to foot movements performed from a position relying upon mixture of
coordination, flexibility, rhythm and style.
-it usually is the first and foremost opening display of style which was then transition in some
athletic moves.

•FOOTWORK- refers to movements executed on one's hand and foot. With footwork, a dancer
demonstrates their proficiency with foot speed and control by performing footwork
combinations. These combinations usually transition into more athletic moves.

•FREEZES is a breaking technique that involves halting all body motions often in interesting or
balanced intensive position. Often incorporate various twist and extortion of the body into
stylish and often difficult position. It is important to be very careful and execute this moves
correctly. Make sure to stretch out your waist and do any practices and exercises to avoid
injury.

•POWER MOVES mostly defined relying on speed, momentum and acrobatics elements of
performance. They can be described as being closer to gymnastics than dancing.
