1. List the main objective for soil compaction (3)

2. Explain the principles of compaction process (3)

3. What are the factors that influence the compaction process? (5)

5. Explain the methods that needs to be employed during roadbed preparations.

Question 2 [20 Marks]
Plot the Mass Haul Diagramme (MHD) for the earthworks of this 2 km long road.
a) You must show your calculations in the table provided below.
b) Plot the MHD.

Shrinkage factor that should be applied:


Use the last digit of your student number for the second decimal value of the shrinkage
factor. The first decimal value of the shrinkage factor is 0,96 for all students.

Examples:
• Student number 60979186: Last digit of the student number is 6, therefore
shrinkage factor to be used is 0,66

• Student number 63822733: Last digit of the student number is 3, therefore


shrinkage factor to be used is 0,63
