4.1 Introductory Activity

(5 min)  Routinary Activities

 Prayer
 Checking of attendance
 Reminders

 Recall previous lesson through

questioning
 How many possible outcomes
of a die? A coin?
 How did you find the
probability in tossing a coin?

 Weather Update –Video

 Why is it very important to be updated with the weather?
 Upon viewing the video, how we will know that we will be expecting
rain or not?
 The teacher introduces the new lesson.
4.2 Activity
The probability of a DECK OF CARDS
(20 mins)

Activity:
Procedure: Given the pack of cards, determine
the following ( Numeracy)

1. No. of cards =52 2. No. of Black cards= 26

3. No. of Red cards = 26 4. No. of Clubs= 13
5. No. of Spade= 13 6. No. of Aces=4
7. No. of cards of 9 =4 8. No. face cards= 12
9. No. of suits= 4 10. No. of hearts=13

In the computations of probabilities you should

consider the following pointers
( let the students read - Literacy )
4.3 Analysis 1. Read and understand the problem.
2. Extract the needed information/ given.
(10 minutes) 3. Find out the basic concepts involve.
4. Solve for all possible probabilities, using the formula.
𝒇𝒂𝒗𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒔
𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒃𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝒂𝒏 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕 =
𝒕𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒔

Let’s try. Situation: In a deck of cards, find the probability of drawing:

a. a heart b. a jack or a diamond

c. not a 2 d. a 5 or a red card

4.4 Abstraction e. a picture card that is black

(5 minutes)

Values Integration and to other learning areas.

Finding the probability/ chances is just a clue in every situation we experienced. For
instance in Science for the weather, we can have a clue for the possibilities / chances
to have rain or a good weather so that we are always ready especially in times of
emergency. However, playing “braha” is prohibited especially when it involves money
because it is illegal and besides we cannot rely on gambling just to earn a living. We
need to strive --to live!

In every problem there is always a solution. That solution is one of the possibilities.
The teacher asks the following questions:
1. How can we compute the probability of a pack of cards?
2. How many number possible outcomes?
3. How many face cards?
4. How many suits? Name each suits.

4.5 Application More examples are given and the teacher gives a chance to the students who did not
participate during the discussion.
(5 minutes) In a deck of cards compute the probability in drawing
1. a number less than 5
2. diamond with an even number
3. a black face card
4. a club
5. a black hearts

4.6 Assessment Quiz. Determine the probability of the following event.

1. drawing aces from a deck of cards
(10 minutes) 2. drawing red face cards
3. drawing a spade
4. drawing a club or an ace
5. drawing a black face cards or a queen
4.7 Assignment Assignment:
(4 minutes) Study in advance MEAN & VARIANCE of a discrete random variable.

4.8 Concluding Activity MATH may not teach us how to ADD love or SUBSTRACT hate but it gives us hope that
(1 minute) EVERY PROBLEM has a SOLUTION.
5. REMARKS

6. REFLECTION
