1. PURPOSE:

The purpose of this method statement is to clarify the works to be carried out for the pipe laying in
duct banks, conduits in concrete and buried conduits in areas specified in approved drawings and
specifications.

2. WORK PERMIT REQUIRED (TICK AS REQUIRED)

Contractor Permit to Work Procedure shall be applied in this case.

3. SCOPE

The scope of this method statement covers pipe laying in duct banks, conduits in concrete
and buried conduits to be done in Shah Gas Development Project for the Plant units
U726,U727,U740,U742 and General Area Unit 0230.

 Area CE will ensure that the excavation and backfilling activities are conducted according
to this method statement, latest approved Project drawings & relevant specifications for the
activities and will be directly reporting to CM.

 CE & surveyor will ensure that location & levels of the excavations are as per approved
drawings.

 QA&QC civil will ensure that all work is executed according to ITP and that requirements of
quality dossier are fulfilled.

 Safety and Construction supervision will be carried out by Subcontractor under supervision
of Contractor.

7. PROCEDURES – METHOD OF WORKS – INSTRUCTIONS

7.1 EXCAVATION
 Before starting the activity, site surveyor shall mark the coordinates as per approved latest
drawings.
 Excavation area shall be marked by a qualified and competent surveyor.
 All the Excavation works will be carried out as per the following Method Statements:

Excavation & Backfilling (MP02-0230-17-MES- 2D0001)

 Excavation shall be done with help of suitable equipment as per site conditions with a proper
Contractor permit to work System.

 All necessary compaction / trimming at bottom of excavation shall be done.

 If any underground services / utilities found; only hand excavation shall be carried

out as per excavation work permit in order to avoid any mishap.

 Any excavated material shall be stockpiled at min. 5 Mtr. Away from the excavated area.
The unsuitable material shall be removed to an approved dump area.

7.2 PVC PIPE IN DUCT BANKS AND CONDUITS IN CONCRETE

7.2.1 PIPE LAYING

 After the Blinding concrete and water proofing activities, the Surveyor shall mark the positions of
the approved PVC Pipes on the lean concrete.

 Reinforcement at the bottom shall be placed first and then the PVC pipes shall be placed as per final
position.

 External side be installed and properly supported as per dimension indicated into the drawings.

 Tie-ins proper the conduit to avoid moving and to avoid uplifting during concrete pouring.

7.2.2 CONCRETING

 The PVC pipe levels and positions will be checked and upon approval by the QC inspector, the
pouring of concrete shall be in accordance with the following Method Statements:

7.3 BURIED CONDUITS

7.3.1 PIPE LAYING

 After the excavation of the trench has been completed, the base of the trench shall be compacted,
cleaned at the required level. Surveyor shall mark the positions of the PVC Pipes on the soil.

 Proper sand bed shall be done as indicated into the approved latest drawings.

 Laying of the PVC pipes on the sand bed and backfilled with suitable material as per approved
drawings.
 Warning tiles shall be placed above the PVC pipes as per approved project drawings.

7.4 BACKFILL & FILL

All the Earth works will be carried out as per the following Method Statements:

 The backfill material shall be sourced from suitable stockpile or from excavated material if
suitable for the project.

 Backfilling shall be done with a proper permit to work System.

 The CE shall ensure that particular area/structure has been released for backfilling
by QC department.

 The backfill material will be placed in layers according to the specification (DGS-1486-001&
MP02-0230-14-ADD-086001)

 The layer will be moisturized and compacted to 95% compaction.

 Backfill will be tested by the test laboratory and frequency of test will be according to
agreed QCP (MP02-0230-92-SPE-0D9612).

8. TOOLS & EQUIPMENTS

8.1 EXECUTION

 All equipment shall be inspected and approved by the Contractor before attempting work on
site and have valid certificates & inspection sticker.

 A register of all machinery & equipment shall be maintained and held available for
inspection. Equipment shall be visually checked prior to each major work and validity of
inspection status will be verified.

 All equipment shall have their type & capacity clearly indicated with a permanent stamp
or an approved identification alternative.

 Should additional or different equipment be required during the course of the works,
they will be mobilized as necessary.

9. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

 All personnel involved shall use necessary PPE as required such as safety helmet, glasses,

daily tool box and safety talk.

 All required work permits shall be acquired and kept available at respective work site
hanged clearly in plastic folders.

 Safety notice board shall be installed.
