Human Behavior in an Organization (Education)

REFLECTION PAPER ON THE TOPIC

INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES IN THE WORKPLACE

"Just as a rainbow would be incomplete without each of its colors, humanity would be
incomplete without the spectrum of individual differences," by Richelle E. Goodrich. This
quotation totally demonstrates the individual differences and its benefit to an organization.
I have already learned about individual differences but the related topics discussed by the
lecturer made me realize and reflect on individual differences in the workplace.
People differ in productivity. This is brought about by several factors including commitment to
work, relationship with co-workers, reaction to empowerment and self-esteem. Knowing all of
these, I can better understand people in my workplace. Being a person who take initiative to
lead a group to achieve desired goals, I always make sure that I am the glue that sticks everyone
together.
When there is a new teacher, I try to be well acquainted with him/her so that I can tell all about
the tasks in a positive way. In this process there will be increased self-esteem, better
understanding of the job which will lead to commitment and productivity.
I am in an organization with multiple superiors. Because of individual difference, one superior is
different from the other. Keeping this in mind, I always do necessary adjustment to every
leadership style.
Age can be a factor in the productivity. As people in an organization age, they tend to be less
agile but with much wisdom in our craft. I try to complement them by trying help or assist them
in tasks and in the process acquire some positive wisdom.
To conclude, everybody differs in one way or another. But in this diversity, there will be
different skills and abilities to complement each other and work together towards achieving a
common goal. In diversity, there can be a unity.
