EARNEST PREPARATIONS FOR
EXTERNAL EXAMINATIONS
The May/June sitting of CXC examinations for our Fifth and Sixth
Form gentlemen approaches. And we have been preaching and
insisting on the notion of "time-on-task." It is important that
each young man puts in at least another 3 hours of work each
week on top of the minimum 3 or 5 hours allotted to each
course of study. This is the level of effort that will make a
difference between a Grade 3 and a Grade 2, and between a
Grade 2 and a Grade 1. We will also continue our booster
strategy in tandem with the WBS-PTA just to ensure that we are
always plugging the gaps while boosting the test-taking skills of
the gentlemen.
TECHNOLOGY POLICY
We are at this stage engaging a consultation with the
stakeholder groups in the school - staff, parents, students and
alumni - to determine the best way to settle the question of
students and mobile phones in school. The modified position for
the period September 1 - December 31, 2022 has not only expired
but raised a number of very serious concerns, some which have
shown up in the quality of the work produced by the students as
well as their performance in the end-of-term examinations.
WHILE THESE CONSULTATIONS CONTINUE:
1. We will revert to the NO cellphone policy of the Handbook.
2. NO student will be allowed the use of a laptop during a class
session, EXCEPT with the express permission of the teacher
delivering the lesson. Failure to put away a laptop will incur a
detention.
3. NO earbuds, earphones or headphones will be allowed on
the school compound. These devices will be confiscated.

VALEDICTORY SERVICE
Our annual Valedictory Service for the Class of June
2023 will be hosted on the last Sunday in June; that
is, June 25, 2023. Beyond the ability to pay for the
package, we urge all our Fifth Form gentlemen to
keep the qualifying standards that are clearly
outlined on pages 15 - 16 in the Students'
Handbook. Among them is the fact that non-
submission of an SBA immediately disqualifies a
student. It is therefore important that ALL SBA
projects are submitted and rightly so, on time.
WBS GROOMING
STANDARD
1. All students return to having their hair neatly
groomed at all times. A low, conservative fade is
acceptable with no coloured or patterned
embellishments. Sponging is not allowed.
2. Gentlemen, across the grades, are required to
wear the prescribed khaki provided in the
registration package. No beige or cream pants or
shirt is allowed.
3. All gentlemen are required to daily wear two
Wolmer’s Boys’ School epaulettes, one sewn on
either shoulder with the gold to the front and
maroon to the back.
4. A pair of leathern shoes (black or dark brown) is
to be worn. Black shoes are worn with either plain
black or navy blue socks while dark brown shoes
are worn with dark brown socks. Two-toned shoes,
suede uppers (Desert Clarks), sandals, sliders and
crocs are not allowed. No ankle-socks, white,
coloured or multi-coloured socks are allowed.
5. Gentlemen are also required to wear a leathern
belt. No canvas or fabric belts are allowed. And a
black belt goes with black shoes while a dark brown
belt goes with dark brown shoes. No ornate
buckles.
6. Students must not dismantle their uniform,
unless preparing for training, competition or similar
activity.
7. Only a low V-neck undershirt should be worn.
Undershirts should not show!
8. Form-fitting clothes are discouraged; shirts
should fit comfortably around the neck, across the
chest and torso while trousers should also fit
comfortably and cover the top of the shoe laces.
