Date of submission: ________27-09-2023__________ Maximum Marks: _____________30 Marks_______
Academic Task Type: Assignment
Objective: To use matrix input-output analysis to examine the economic interdependencies across different sectors of an economy
and develop conclusions about the impact of changes in one area on the entire economy.

Instructions:

Part 1: Data Collection and Preparation

For your analysis, choose an economy or region of interest. You can select a country, state, or city. Collect input-output statistics for
the economy you've chosen.

This information can be obtained through government agencies, statistical agencies, or academic studies. Ascertain that the data
contains the coefficients of transactions between various sectors of the economy.

Make a square matrix out of the data, with rows and columns representing sectors and values representing monetary/input flows
between sectors.

Part 2: Matrix Manipulation

Determine the total output of each industry. This is accomplished by adding the values in each row of the matrix.

Determine the total amount of input required by each sector. This is accomplished by adding the values in each column of the matrix.

Determine the direct and indirect effects of changes in demand for a certain sector (for example, increased investment or exports). To
do this, use Crammers rule or matrix inversion approach.

Part 3: Analysis

Choose a sector and assume a change in demand or production (for example, a 10% increase in demand). Determine the direct and
indirect implications of this shift on the economy are other sectors.

Determine how the initial change in demand ripples across the economy, altering production and revenue levels in other sectors.

Part 4: Conclusion

Summarise your results and develop conclusions on the chosen economy's economic interdependence. Discuss which industries are
the most vulnerable to swings in demand and which are more resilient.

Consider the policy consequences of your research. How can policymakers use input-output analysis to inform economic development
and crisis management strategies?

Submission: Submit a report that includes your data sources, matrix calculations, analysis, and conclusions.

Note: Ensure that your data sources are appropriately cited and that you use acceptable mathematical notation in your
computations. This assignment will help you get a better understanding of how different sectors of an economy are
interconnected and how changes in one sector can affect the entire economy.

Important Note:

1. All work must be original; any work that is clipped, duplicated, or pasted will result in a zero grade.
2. If two students' work is discovered to be identical to one another's work, both will receive a zero.
3. Students must submit documents in either word or pdf format; word documents occasionally cause settings to change; to
prevent this, pdf documents are the preferable choice.
4. Students should ensure that the answers to the questions are in the correct order before submitting the file to UMS.
5. Students must submit their files only via UMS and on time; after the deadline, assignment will not be accepted.
