CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

1.1 The Background Of Prakerin

Indonesia, as one of the countries with the largest population in the world, has attracted the
attention of entrepreneurs from both domestic and foreign origins. The presence of a large
population is one of the reasons why Indonesia is an attractive business destination. However,
Indonesia's greatest potential lies in the abundance of its human resources. With a plentiful
workforce, Indonesia represents a profitable market and an ideal location for investment and
the establishment of various businesses. Therefore, every company want to acquire high-
quality human resources so that their operation can run smoothly.

The Indonesian government understands the importance of enhancing the quality of human
resources as a key factor in the country's economic growth. One strategic step taken is the
establishment of Vocational High Schools (SMK) as an essential component of the education
system. SMK dedicates itself to developing students' skills and readiness to enter the
workforce with a strong professional attitude. SMK offers various educational programs
designed to adapt with a lot of job types and the evolving demands of the labor market.

The importance of SMK in preparing job-ready human resources is evident in the flexibility
of its programs. SMK continually adapts its skill courses to meet the current needs and
demands of the industry. As a result, SMK graduates have a competitive advantage in various
economic sectors. These vocational programs have a dual purpose: creating human resources
relevant to the job market and preparing students for careers in various fields of work.

One crucial aspect of SMK education is the Industrial Work Practice Program (Prakerin).
This program is specifically designed to provide students with practical experience in the
industrial world. During a specified period, SMK students are given the opportunity to intern
at various companies. The primary goal is to provide students with a deep understanding of
day-to-day industrial operations and prepare them to face it confidently in the future.

Through ongoing efforts to develop human resources and the practical experience provided
by Prakerin, Indonesia is facing a brighter future. Companies will have access to high-quality
human resources, while SMK graduates will be ready to meet the demands of the job market.
All of this is a crucial step in making Indonesia a major player on the global economic stage.
