6. DETAILED CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE

6.1 Site Planning & Preparation
Site planning and preparation for SBS waterproofing membrane application is a critical step in
ensuring the long-term performance of the system. The following steps should be taken to ensure a
successful installation:

1. Inspect the substrate. The substrate must be clean, dry, and free of debris. Any cracks or
holes should be filled before installation.
2. Prepare the substrate. The substrate should be primed with a approved primer. This will
help to create a bond between the membrane and the substrate.
3. Apply the membrane. The membrane should be applied according to the manufacturer's
instructions. It is important to overlap the sheets by at least 100mm to ensure a watertight
seal.
4. Protect the membrane. The membrane should be protected from physical damage and
sunlight. This can be done by installing a approved protection board on it.

MS for SBS Modified Bituminous Sheet Waterproofing Works
By following these steps, we can ensure that your SBS waterproofing membrane system will provide
years of reliable protection from water damage.

6.2 Work Methodology

Point to be noted in the Exeed Precast factory, only vertical surface will apply on pump room.

A.) Primer application

Apply a single coat of primer (ELASTOCOL WB) evenly on the surface using a brush, roller, or
spray.
B.) Membrane application SOPRALENE FLAM 180 4P20
Two layers of SBS waterproofing membrane can be installed in a variety of ways, depending on the
specific application. However, there are some general steps that are common to all methods.
Horizontal Surface –
First Layer Application:
1. Roll out the SBS waterproofing membrane SOPRALENE FLAM 180 4P20 onto the prepared
surface, starting from one end.
2. Heat the underside of the membrane using a propane torch, moving the flame evenly across the
surface.
3. Press the heated membrane onto the surface using a roofing roller or a similar tool.
4. Ensure proper adhesion by rolling over the membrane with the roller to remove any air bubbles or
wrinkles.
Second Layer Application:
5. Roll out the second layer of SBS waterproofing membrane SOPRALENE FLAM 180 4P20 over
the first layer, aligning the edges.
6. Heat the underside of the second layer, following the same torch application method as before.
7. Press the heated second layer onto the first layer, ensuring good adhesion and a smooth surface.
8. Use the roller to remove any air pockets and ensure proper bonding between the two layers.

Vertical Surface –
First Layer Application:
9. Start at the bottom: Unroll the first layer of SBS membrane SOPRALENE FLAM 180 4P20 at
the bottom of the vertical surface, ensuring that it extends beyond the intended waterproofing
area. Use roofing nails or screws, if specified by the manufacturer, to secure the membrane
temporarily.
10. Torch application: Starting from the bottom, use a propane torch to heat the membrane evenly.
Begin at one edge and move the torch in a sweeping motion to heat the membrane's underside. Be
cautious not to overheat or burn the membrane.
11. Bonding the membrane: Once the membrane is heated, press it firmly onto the vertical surface
using a trowel or roller. Apply even pressure to ensure proper adhesion. The heat activates the
self-adhesive properties of the membrane, creating a watertight bond with the surface.
Second Layer Application:
Overlap and seal: For the second layer, unroll another SBS membrane SOPRALENE FLAM 180
4P20 roll, overlapping it with the first layer according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Typically, a minimum overlap of 100 mm is recommended. Torch the underside of the second
layer and press it onto the first layer, ensuring a tight bond.
12. Seam treatment: If specified by the manufacturer, use a seam primer or adhesive to treat the
overlapped area and enhance the seam's strength and waterproofing capabilities. Follow the
manufacturer's instructions for the specific product being used.

Project Name: CORDOBA (Phase-1) at Bloom Living
MS for SBS Modified Bituminous Sheet Waterproofing Works
13. Trim excess membrane: Once both layers are securely applied, use a utility knife to trim any
excess membrane along the edges or corners, ensuring a neat and professional finish.

Detailing and Seam Sealing:

14. Pay special attention to the detailing around edges, corners, and any penetrations such as pipes or
drains.
15. Cut the membrane as required to fit these areas, ensuring overlapping and proper sealing between
membrane sections.
16. Heat the membrane and press it firmly onto the surface using the torch, ensuring a secure seal.
17. Point to be noted. Maintain the side lapping of 100mm and end lapping of 150mm. Ensure the
bitumen comes out from the side with a minimum of 3mm.

Termination in the groove:

When terminating an SBS waterproofing membrane in a groove, the process typically involves
the following steps:
18. Prepare the surface: Ensure that the substrate or surface where the membrane will be terminated is
clean, dry, and free from any debris or contaminants. It's important to have a smooth and even
surface for proper adhesion.
19. Install the membrane: Roll out the SBS waterproofing membrane over the desired area, making
sure it overlaps any adjacent membranes or existing waterproofing layers as per the
manufacturer's instructions. Use a roller or hand pressure to firmly press the membrane onto the
surface, ensuring good adhesion.
20. Termination groove: The termination groove is a recessed channel in which the membrane will be
secured and terminated. It provides a clean and protected edge for the membrane.
21. Secure the membrane: The SBS membrane is then inserted into the termination groove and
pressed firmly against it. The membrane should be positioned in a way that it is fully engaged
within the groove.
22. Seal the termination: To ensure a watertight seal, a compatible sealant or adhesive i.e., Sika 428 is
applied above the membrane. This sealant helps to prevent water from entering the groove and
compromising the waterproofing system.

C.) Protection Board

1. Cut the SOPRABOARD SF 6mm to size. The SOPRABOARD SF 6mm should be cut to the
same size as the waterproofing membrane.
2. Apply the SOPRABOARD SF 6mm over the waterproofing membrane. The SOPRABOARD SF
6mm should be applied over the waterproofing membrane.
3. Heat the SOPRABOARD SF 6mm with a torch. The SOPRABOARD SF 6mm should be heated
until it is pliable.
4. Press the SOPRABOARD SF 6mm into place. The SOPRABOARD SF 6mm should be pressed
into place firmly to ensure a good bond.
5. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for all vertical areas.
6. All gaps must be covered. Any gaps between the SOPRABOARD SF 6mm sheets should be
covered.
7. The membrane should not be visible. The SOPRABOARD SF 6mm should completely cover the
waterproofing membrane.
6.3 Inspection Requirements
