SCOPE
This Operating Procedure must be used for an accurate determination of the Relative Humidity (RH)
in the biogas. This SOP can be carried out by a field operator.
DEFINITIONS
Absolute Humidity (AH): The mass of water vapor per volume unit.
Specific Humidity (SH): The mass of water vapor per mass unit of dry biogas.
Relative Humidity (RH): fraction between the water vapor pressure in the biogas and the
water vapor pressure in a saturated biogas at the same temperature. It is a measure for the
water vapor quantity compared to the water vapor quantity of the biogas totally saturated at
the same temperature.
Saturation: The biogas is saturated with water vapor when it holds as much water vapor as it
can at a specified temperature.
Dew point (DP): the temperature at which the water vapor in the biogas starts to condensate.
• Two (2) Temperature gauges. The thermometer must be able to cover the ranging
temperature between 10°C and 60°C.
RH CALCULATION
Temperature Gauges concerned for the Relative Humidity (RH) are located after Heat Exchanger
(TI202) and before Genset (TI205). It is required to register their reading in line with the three daily
routine data collections: 01:00; 09:00; and 17:00.
Based on the data the RH can calculated using the matrix presented in QB16-129.
