STUDENT LEARNING PLAN

Lesson: STORY ELEMENTS OF A FABLE Quarter: FIRST Week: 3


Subject/Level : GRADE 3 Unit: 1 Day: 4

Transfer Goals:

The students in the long run and on their own will be able to determine the central
message of a fable and explain how it is conveyed through key details in text, as well as
appreciate the existence of animals and realize the importance of protecting their lives as
creations of God.

Essential Understanding:

Students will understand that stories can teach you lessons; and the actions of characters
lead to the message.

Essential Questions:
What can stories teach you? How do stories change our lives?

woodcutter – a person who cuts down trees or branches, expecially for fuel.
builder - a person whose job is to build or repair houses.

Motivation: NAME THE ANIMAL


The teacher will present different sounds of animals which the students will guess what
animal is it; or show pictures of animals and the students will tell their sounds.
Is it important to take care of the animals? Why?

Based on the picture, the students will tell a short event about what happened on different
fable stories.

II. Lesson Development

A. Presentation of Concepts
Students will know
 The basic elements of a fable.
Students will be able to
 Identify and describe the main characters and setting in a story.

 Appreciate the importance of taking care of the animals.

 Complete the story map based on the fable.

Activity 1: MATCH ME! (Matching pictures of events from the story to their own
descriptions)
The students in their respective groups are task to match the picture to its
corresponding events.

They will match the picture to its corresponding story events as illustrated. The interface will then be
shared by the teacher to the class’ screen for them to see it.

B. Broadening of Concept

Fables are stories intended to teach a lesson animals often speak and act like human.
 Personification - characters can talk or show human characteristics.
 Setting - often takes place outside.
 Problem - something that is causing trouble or harm that needs to be solved.
 Solution - how the problem is solved.
 Moral - is a short lesson about life that is found in a story.

Question and Answer:


1. What are the main characters of a fable?
2. What are the elements of a fable?
3. What is your favorite fable? Why?

Activity 2: LET’S ORGANIZE!


The students will be divided into five groups. They will complete the story map containing the basic elements of a
fable based on the given short fable story. After that, they will share their ideas to the class.
Group 1 will identify the characters of the fable.
Group 2 will identify the setting.
Group 3 will identify the problem/Solution.
Group 4 will identify the moral of the story.

They will complete the graphic organizer to supply the needed elements of a fable.

They will write their answers in a long bond paper.
